Dam Hoi and Wedding on same day

So I've been talking with my GF about marriage plans based on the amount of vacation that I have. I would like to have a dam hoi, then get married on the visit after the dam hoi.

However, her mom wants to have a dam hoi and wedding on the same day. I think for my situation that this is bad. She was introduced to me by a relative in the US and had a student visa denial to the US from some years ago.

So this is scenario that should happen if we follow tradition:

Fourth visit - Dam Hoi (My parents wouldn't attend due to the cost)

Fifth visit - Apply for marriage license in VN, wedding. (My parents will attend, some of her US relatives might attend)

6 months later she finishes school.

This is the scenario that would happen if we follow her mom's suggestion:

Fourth visit - another visit

Fifth visit - Dam Hoi, apply for marriage license in VN, wedding. (My parents will attend, some of her US relatives might attend)

6 months later she finishes school.

I really think her scenario is a really bad idea. Any comments?

Happens all the time. The consulate knows this and hasn't questioned it yet from what I have heard so far. Make sure you do take plenty of pics separately of both.

If I were contemplating something like this on the first visit then I'd be sweating bullets, but you're talking about doing it on the fifth visit, and your parents will be there for both ceremonies. Sounds almost ideal! Don't pinch pennies on either celebration and I think you'll sail through the consulate.

Should be fine, tradition really varies depending on the area, I asked my wife about it, she said no, can't be on the same day or few days before in her area. Instead, we skipped the engagement party and had a small celebration to introduce me to her family. The pictures from this celebration were not included in the package to uscis, so in the eyes of the government, we had no engagement, only a wedding, and my wife was given a pink after 3 questions.
