Moving Provinces from one Consulate area to another

Hi Everyone, I too have been playing the refresh game and am hoping for an appt in the next set that opens up. I just found this site recently and so grateful for that - although I'm a bit of a novice to posting and viewing so hoping I'm not going to miss the notice when the next set of appts open up. Question if anyone knows............I'm now in receipt of Pkt4 and trying to get an appt for interview. I was planning on moving back home with my parents for a bit - they are in Manitoba and I'm in Ontario. Which means.......my Montreal case would have to get transferred to Vancouver - or would they do this or would I have to start the paperwork all over again? I will ask the consulate but just wondered if anyone knew how it would work if you move to another Province during the process - especially one that moves you into another Consulate? Seems there is so much great knowledge on this site I thought I'd put it out to the group. Thanks for any info you can provide

1, contact Vancouver consul and tell them you have a I-129F at Montreal give the MTL case number and ask them to transfer it based on the fact ur moving ( if Vancouver services that area they will move it. If not then it stays at Montreal)

2, contact Montreal consul and tell them you contacted Vancouver to move your I-129F to Vancouver consul because your moving. You will have to email Montreal because they do not do anything over the phone.

You will need to put all your case details in the email incl case number as the subject line.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Thank you! I will do that. I wonder if the transfer will take just as long as the interviews in Montreal. I wonder if Vancouver will tell me that. Does Vancouver take phone calls? Thanks again for your help! :)

Vancouver usually takes calls/answers emails rather quickly compared to Montreal.

It should take only a couple weeks to get to Vancouver from Montreal. The process is MUCH faster in Vancouver, you wont be there long before you get the interview then book the medical ( if you haven't already ) and get everything done.

Thanks again. I actually have my medical booked for this Wednesday in Toronto. Since this move thing just came up in the last few days and I am going to go if the consulates agree - I am wondering if my medical would be valid if I end up having my interview in Vancouver. You know you just don't want to mess up part way through this process for fear of taking steps backwards - it's been too long of a wait already. Again, thank you very much for the insight - you've been a wonderful source of information. :) :)

Your Toronto medical would still be valid for an I-129f processed in Vancouver. They give you the package of information to hand-deliver to the Consulate when you have your interview, so as long as the Panel Physician is one of the ones listed for Canada, the results can be used at either Consulate. The medical results are considered valid for a year after having the medical. When you arrive in the US and apply to adjust status, as long as you are applying within a year of having the medical, the results will still be valid.

I'm sorry, I don't know how long a transfer will take. I would go by what Inky posted. Certainly it would not take anywhere near long enough to invalidate your medical.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Hi Soulmates513,

I just went through this transfer process 4 weeks ago.

I live in Saskatchewan and my case was sent from NVC to Montreal. I emailed both Vancouver consulate and Montreal consulate requesting a transfer. Vancouver got back to me within 24 hours. They said they would also request the transfer on my behalf seeing as how it's difficult to communicate with Montreal. I also sent Montreal an email requesting the transfer. Montreal replied two weeks later stating they had sent the file to Vancouver.

I waited about 2-3 weeks for Vancouver to receive the physical file from Montreal. I was told not to schedule my interview or complete packet 3 until Vancouver had my physical file, as they wanted slightly different documents than Montreal. Within 48 hours of Vancouver receiving my file, I submitted all the required documents via email (DS 230 part 1, packet 3 and packet 4) and had my interview scheduled for two weeks later. It was that fast.

Re: documents - You may have to repeat DS 230 part 1 and packet 3 (checklist) for Vancouver, as they are apparently slightly different than Montreal. However, if you ask them to email correspond with you then you can send and receive all of your documents within a matter of days.

Re: medical - As far as I know it doesn't matter where you have your medical done as long as it's done by a USPHS panel physician listed in the Consulate's info package. You just end up handing the sealed medical envelope to the consulate - they don't care where it's from as long as it meets the qualifications.

Also - my case number did not change. I continued to have an MTL case number even though I transferred to Van consulate.

Hope this helps - it will only take a few weeks of waiting but once Vancouver gets your application things go much faster! Good luck!

2011 - 2013 - K-1, AOS, Lifting COnditions

2013 - 2014 - GC approved

2024 - Instead of renewing, why not go the full monty? (They actually made it really easy to do this)
