Hello. Just to get everything together in advance and for Venezuela it appears that marriage certificates are being asked for? is this for previous marriages that of were ended in divorce? we have all the divorce stuff done but not the previous marriage certs... is this only for the beneficiary or both? Also anyone know if we can jump ahead and do the medical exam things before we get the packed.I see it is good for 6 months? or doesall the paperwork have to reflect a case number that I don't have yet..currently at NOA1

You both need a divorce certificate if you have both been married.

You are both required to have proof of legal name change if you are not applying under your birth name. So if the fiancee (female) has been married before she would need a copy of the marriage certificate to show that her birth name was changed by marriage to her married name.

But you would have needed to supply that for the initial petition anyway.

You do need ANYTHING in Spanish translated into English. We sent in statements/certificates of divorce from our previous marriages (we were both married once prior), as well as the English translations (certified).

You only need divorce papers. For translations I used a local translator service here in town (University Translators Service) , but if you google you will find a few. Its not cheap =(. Most places seemed to want $.65 per word plus $10-$20 for the certification. That adds up real quick.

When we were going through the K1 processes, we saw the same requirement for a marriage certificate. My then novia said that the certificate had been returned to government/court as part of the divorce process. She did not ever use a marriad name in her first marriage. The USC does not need a certificate, just the divorce papers.

Anyone fluent in both languages can make the translation. We had documents translated in Venezuela. It was very inexpensive compared to the cost of doing so in the US.

Hope this helps.

how exactly do you translate it..

do you get a copy of divorce paper and write english under the spanish words..

or type out the spanish words and then translation under it..

i think she can translate it or find a friend..

as long as you sign the affadavit for the translation.. is that correct..

she was married but is now divorce.. but this is the one step that confuses me..

but she is coming to visit in december.. and i would like to get those packet ready when she is here and we are together.. then she goes back.. and i will visit again in feb/march time..

she came to texas in Feb. and i just left VENZ 3 weeks ago.. i was in caracas and rio chico!! its beautiful country.. but i hope we can keep in contact.. i think novia would feel for comfortable if she was able to speak in spanish with other VENZ going thru K1 tambien :)

As far as the translations we hired a official translator from the university in Carabobo. He included a copy of his official translator status for government documents as well as stamped and placed a seal (like a notary)on every page on the documents to show they were complete as translated. Cost we around $50 to do everything. It would have cost 10 times that to do here.
