Hello,

If I marry a foreign women and me being a U S citizen and she has a minor child and a visa is approved for both, how long does the minor child have to wait for U S citizenship? I understand that my wife has to wait for 5 years, but I was told that the minor children are able to get U S citizenship much faster. Is this true? I also read that they must wait until they are 18, so I am confused.

Thanks...

Actually the wife would be able to naturalize after 3 years of marriage & having a greencard. Her minor child would become a USC as soon as she does provided the child is also a greencard holder.

If she gets a green card by virtue of being married to you then she can apply for US citizenship three years after getting her green card, presuming she's still married to you. If she's not still married to you then she has to wait five years. If her child is still under 18 when she becomes a citizen, and if the child has a green card and is living in the US with her, then the child automatically becomes a US citizen. If the child is over 18 when she becomes a citizen then the child will have to wait until they've had a green card for five years and then apply for naturalization on their own.
