How is the AirIndia direct flight to New Delhi?

How is it? Is it good? Is it unbearable being on a plane that long? How was the food?

I've never flown AirIndia before and I'm flying to see my fiance in January :) Have flown JetAirways in the past and loved it but since I only have a week off, I'm looking to shave travel time off of my trip.

I am the petitioner.

I was supposed to fly it from JFK to New Delhi but that bad snow storm in December messed up my plans and I was lucky to be put on a standby flight via US Airways/British Airways.

I did get a chance to fly it back to the USA. New Delhi to JFK. The flight is long, but it is not bad as they give a lot of leg room compared to the other long haul flights. The entertainment is good and the food is not bad for airplane standards. lol

I recommend it. It was a nice smooth flight for me.

LOL...I had plenty of dry snacks in my carry on. I must say the non-veg food selection was pretty good.

Sure smelled like it. Of course, by the time they got to my seat, they were all out of the non-veg items and I got stuck with some unrecognizable aloo-paneer-matar mash. Gah.

Oh, that sucks. The Lamb was REALLY good on our flight. I always try to get an emergency exit or as close to the front of the plane as possible for the extra leg room and food choice. :)

I've done is once, It was average one issue someone mentioned here earlier is the fact that by the time you reach your seat, the selection may be limited.

As a short cut I've noticed when you make special order when you book your ticket or even at check in, you can let them know that you would like Hallal. just like some folks would say they want kosher, it's the same food just the way it was prepared is different that way you know exactly you'll get the best selection.

Okay my two cents.

Haven't traveled in AirIndia since the ice ages... lol

I will however recommend Emirates and Qatar. Unbelievable flight experience. Good amount of legroom on their B777-300ER (both Emirates and Qatar use these airplanes).

No idea about the A380 used by Emirates.

Food is good, however I am a vegetarian, so understand my perspective.

I have traveled through Swiss, Lufthansa, Delta, Alitalia... but nothing compares to Emirates and Qatar.

Unfortunately, none of them have a direct flight to India.

There is a Continental/United direct flight to mumbai, however you want to go to Delhi ;)

The long range planes Air India uses are pretty new and they have removed quite a few seats in the economy side to give extra leg room. I think I read they offer the most leg room than any airlines for long haul flights. The flight is quite comfy for the 14-16 hour trips. Entertainment is good. I usually just don't sleep for a couple nights before the flight going to India and back to the USA so I am comatose on the plane...lol

I dunno if I'll ever fly the A380...thats a big plane and I HATED the 747's back in the day.

Air India is the best to be honest for us. From Ohio to Home in Gujarat...its less than 28-30 hours. That is without any delays and everything happens on time.

I don't like the Europe stop either...it seem quite pointless to me if they offer direct flights.

I totally agree with you on that, earlier on the most confortable flight I had was with Lufthansa, Singapore airline, but Emirates is on a league of their own, really nice service.

I was flying Air india from NY-Mumbai, I brought some extra AA batteries for my MP3 at the time and they told me i couldn't take it on the plane(that was at the final bag check in before you board) I was told i would get them back when I reach Mumbai.

Once I reach my destination I asked the flight attendent that was at the door for my batteries, she looked at with a clueless look, What are you talking about, ( I guess someone wanted my batteries for their stuff and stole my for their purpose, really really cheap move), needless to say I never fly with them again.
