We have already completed and mailed the I-751 and are in the process of the removing of conditions. My wifes permanent resident card is set to expire in October and we were planning on traveling in November.

1. Does anyone know once the temporary permanent resident card expires how we travel?

2. Can an extension of the permanent resident card be obtained?

2. Do we have to wait until the AOS process is complete and we are issued a new card before traveling?

Thanks in advance!

You shouldn't travel unless you have a valid passport for at least six months and a valid green card - go online to the USCIS website and request an INFOPASS appointment for - take you passport with you so they can stamp it and give you temporary permission to travel and work in the USA until you get a valid green card

Did you receive the NOA letter? it should state that your residency has been extended for 1 year and you can travel and work as long as you have this letter. Make sure to take the expired GC with you along with the NOA letter. Did you receive the Bio letter?

- Delivered to VSC 05/09/11

- NOA receipt date 05/09/11

- Check cashed 05/12/11

- Biometrics letter in the mail 06/02/11

- Biometrics appointment 06/17/11

- Approved 01/27/12

Are you filing AOS I-485 or ROC I-751 removing conditions on a 2 yr GC? I am confused but no either way you should not travel until you have GC in hand or AP.

When you filed, you got a receipt letter. READ the letter. It is a 1 year extension to your green card. If you go outside the ocuntry brng your expired green card AND the letter. Produce both at the POE when you return. No problems.

We live very close to the Canada border and frequently go to Canada. Alla used her expired green card and this letter several times and never had a question asked upon re-entry or when entering Canada (she uses the green card to enter Canada, passport is not needed for ground travel)

They are removing conditions (I-751) which IS an adjustment of status (AOS) even though it is not usually referred to as such in these forums. She is free to travel with her expired green card and the letter of receipt.
