Changing interview date for AOS

Our file was first transferred to CSC, which was a relief hoping that the file would get approved without an interview, but recently it was transferred back. We are prepared for the interview, however here is our situation.

1. I, USC, had a surgery back in June, and was out of work for one month, which had me use up all my vacation days. I do not know if I'll get a day off for the interview.

2. Since my wife received her ead card 26th August, and her SSN around the 12th of this month, I have not had a chance to add her on my bills, insurance, etc.

Is it possible to postpone the interview till beginning of next year, at which point I will be able to take time off from work for the interview? Will it look bad on our part? It's just that these times are so competitive, I do not want to risk losing my job.

For the job, you are the only one that can decide and weigh the situation. From our point of view, we are so eager and impatient to finish with the whole process that the sacrifice of just one day is really worth. It s only one day after all, and showing the NOA for the interview to your employer might make him realize how crucial this date is.Read again what's mentionned on the interview NOA at the bottom."if an emergency"...etc

You can try but I doubt they'll put it off that long.

I don't know what you do but you could try asking for unpaid leave for just that day. Or taking a sick day or something. There isn't really a choice about whether you attend or not, you MUST attend. Just let your employer know that this appointment means a greencard for your spouse and the ability for her to work which should relieve a lot of at home pressure and stress.

Yeah, and also permission to stay in the USA legally. That should matter to his employer... IMO. :)

It should but some people/employers care more about their "bottom line" so making it about helping their employee (the OP) be more productive because he's less stressed out, stating he will take the day unpaid, or use up a sick day doesn't hurt their bottom line and can help it so it should make them more happy to give it up.

I know my husbands work was very lenient about it and that certainly removed a lot of stress.

Do the right thing, do not loose your job in this economy. How about a shift trade?

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

He had a hernia operation in June, when he took a month off work. This set us back. We were planning to go abroad to visit my family as he hasn't met anyone yet, but his recovery time sponged up all of his vacation time (inclusive of sick days, and personal days, I think). He is an account sales rep for a beer company, so no such thing as a shift change, plus, like I said that her in Southwest Fl, the economy is not so great, and we just do not know if we should risk losing his job, we don't want to give them any reason to let him go.
