When bowling, rarely does anyone get all strikes.

At's what makes the game interesting.

As long as parents who have children attending said school fund it then more power to them. It's when people who have no children have to pay school tax, etc.. is when it becomes total bs. Why should someone who doesn't have kids pay for someone else kid?

Because the country needs kids. Because those that don't raise any kids still benefit from them. Take a read here and pay attention to the outlook which I will quote below.

SPT: Our situation is often compared to Japan's economic winter that's been going on for 20-plus years. Could it last that long here?

Johnson: We're optimistic about the United States because we're not Japan. We have young people. We actually have this generation coming along in a decade or so.

Dent: We have a substantial generation to follow. Not as big as the baby boomers. Japan has a little blip and that's it. Europe has no echo generation. Europe is done. Europe is a retirement community in debt.

Ageing and ultimately declining populations are a major drag on any national economy. Ensuring that there will be a viable and strong next generation is in everyone's interest. Those that elect not to be part of the country's future or can for some reason not be part of it should still support the future of this nation. Or do you hate America that much that you'd want to see it decline into a meaningless swath of land?

Ah yes, the old people. The ones that have most of the wealth in the country, have the least debt, get the biggest tax subsidies, and still want the rest of the nation to pay for their healthcare, and pensions. They don't want to die until they have spent every last penny they accrued over a lifetime of selfish greed, and any wealth they do leave behind, goes to their kids that are already near or past retirement age.

Better yet, peeps can pay for their own kids. If they choose to have a half dozen kids...more power to them, as long as they are paying for them and not me.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

It's always a dreamy theoretical scenario to pose a seemingly irresistible investment like, "Every $1 dollar invested now, will bring $7 of benefit later."

Or "Provide kids with good schools now, and keep them out of costly prisons later."

The problem is, gov't's and investors on every level are short-term in their thinking, only looking every 3-6 months ahead.

If only we were generational thinking, and could say, "Let's sacrifice now, for the generation 20 years down the road, who are not even called into existence yet.

It just ain't gonna happen, despite the obvious value and benefit it would accrue to society.

:star:

As I already posted, the only "long term benefit" is the warm feeling some get from throwing huge sums of money, at a problem.

The results are in, it was a huge waste of money.

3) By the end of first grade, only “a single cognitive impact was found for each cohort.” Compared to students in the control group, the 4-year-old Head Start cohort did “significantly better” on vocabulary and the 3-year-old cohort tested better in oral comprehension. The study concludes, "Head Start has benefits for both 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds in the cognitive, health, and parenting domains, and for 3-year-olds in the social-emotional domain. However, the benefits of access to Head Start at age four are largely absent by 1st grade for the program population as a whole. For 3-year-olds, there are few sustained benefits, although access to the program may lead to improved parent-child relationships through 1st grade, a potentially important finding for children’s longer term development.”[14]
