Question about the "Security Secretariats" In Brazil, Civil Police Certificate.

I have been using this forum since about August. It has helped me soooo much. If it was not for the information on this site I am sure me and my love would have not been able to get this far.

Me and my fiancee have been dating for about two years now, and we have been engaged for about a 9 months. Our Visa application is currently in Rio and our interview is on October 25th

We have been really busy trying to get all of the paperwork together. We just finished the Medical exam last week, and everything went smooth. However we just hit a bit of a bump.

I have been checking reading and searching but I cant seem to find the answer to this question. So i figured I would ask here.

My fiance has lived in the same state- Minas Gerais the same city- Governador Valadares, the same district- vila Isa, Heck even the same house since she was born.

We got the Federal Police certificate with no problems, and we got what we thought we needed about the State Public Security Secretariat which I thought was the civil police.

After we received those certificates, I checked to make sure they were right. And when I checked the web site it was about as clear as mud.

So I guess my question is will the Certificate that the Civil Police gave us in Governador Valadares be enough for the interview or do we have to go to the main office in Belo again to get a different paper.

The certificate that we received seems as though it is the same certificate that they show on the website. We really do not want to have to go back to Belo again, so any help would be very much appreciated.

BTW this website is wonderful!!

I would go to the main office, but that's just me. Or get your fiancee to call them, and ask if the certificate you already have is right, for the US embassy. If it's not, they'll tell you what to do. Mine I had to go to the main office, mostly because it's the option for who lives in Rio anyway, and get the supervisor to sign it. In your case, I'd get your fiancee to call them, and see if it's all good.

Good luck,

Carolina

Sometimes you can obtain those certificates online. My husband went in person to get his because he was more comfortable with that. He lives in the capital city of his state, so I'm not sure if that made a difference. Perhaps if he lived in another city he would have had to travel to the capital. I know that I have seen several people on VJ obtain them via an online portal. If you have doubts, you can email the embassy and explain what you have. Then ask if it will be sufficient. Good luck with your interview!

That's true too. I shoulda've said that in my case I'm only 1 hour away from the capital, so it's very easy to me to go there. Either way you can call the secretaria, and email the embassy to know for sure what you have to do, or if what you have is okay.

I just received an e-mail from the consulate, this is what it said.

Dear Sir,

The State police certificate may have a title variety.

We can accept if one of these names are into it:

Secretaria de Seguranca Publica.

Policia Tecnico Cientifica.

Instituto de Identificacao.

So I guess me and my Fiancee were just worried about nothing!
