Hey Guys,

I'm just wondering what to expect when I cross the border in Maine.

So our plans have changed yet again, looks like we are not going to bother importing my vehicle to the US. Our plan right now is to have my parents drive us from New Brunswick Canada (where I'm from) to Presque Isle Maine and then we will fly from Presque Isle Maine to Chicago Illinois (so much cheaper this way, it's over $2000 for both of us to fly from Canada to the US but only $600 from Presque Isle Maine to Chicago Illinois). I was wondering if anyone else has done this before crossed the border by car then flew to your destination? Do you think I will have any problems at the border in Maine for getting on the flight? I also don't know how experienced the border crossing in Maine is with K1 visas ... what should I expect them to do, so that I know they are doing everything right? What papers will they ask of me, what papers do I get back... you know those types of questions??? Any help will do!!! Thanks :)

Me and my uhaul went thru Calais Maine! They had NOOOO clue on how to do a CR-1, but they have a handy dandy book and they made a call to another POE and got it figured out!!! Its a very easy procedure, and if the POE is not busy, one can be in and out in less than an hour. I think i was out in less than an hr and they had no clue, lol but I was the only person there!! Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

My fiancee lives one mile from the border with NB. When we cross to shop in canada then return back to the US I was constantly hassled by the US immigration. I was travelling on a B2 visa, which caused me more problems than it was worth. what I am getting at I suppose is they just dont have the experience on the border crossings of northern maine. Seeing an english guy with a B2 visa was a big deal and they would grill me regularilly. Personally I would fly into somewhere more "international" and avoid the grief. Oh and Presque Isle airport thats another story lol.!!
