Can I put NVC on hold??

Hello!

We just got our NOA2 yesterday and are very happy for that! However we were not expecting it this soon and we are not as prepared as I would like us to be! My hubby (petitioner) is currently in the military, he has been for 7 years and he is employed till November by them, then he is officially getting out. He is currently looking for a job for when he gets out, but he has not found one yet. He has been told by his leadership that it might take a while considering the economy and blah blah.

So now, we are waiting to get our case # from NVC, but i'm afraid he won't be able to file the I-864 right away considering his soon unemployment! So my question is, can we put NVC on hold??? If yes, for how long? Do we have to call them to let them know?

What I was thinking is ... I could pay the fees right now, and file the documents required by me (beneficiary) and wait till my husband get a job and file for his I-864. What do you think?

Do you think we could file ASAP and be approved before he gets out?

I don't know what to do :hehe: ... please advise! Thanks ...

I would file as soon as you can, lots of military members and others change careers, good luck.

I think you should continue as while he is in military your case is automatically expedited. It may not be as easy the next time. Go forth with it anyhow. See if he can get a joint sponsor as well to supplement his income requirements.

Nvc will hold applications for 1 year before you have to refile. Do not pay fees until u are ready.to have case sent to embassy

May 24, 2011 NOA1

Sept 11, 2011 NOA2-took 19 days to get case number

Sept 30, 2011 NVC number and IIN received Friday-gotta wait till Monday

Oct 13, 2011 Case Completed- 13 days from receiving case number Took 32 days from NOA2

Nov 30, 2011 Notified of Interview date

January 19, 2012 Interview- 240 days from NOA1

INTERVIEW RESULTS-APPROVED WITH 14 WEEKS AP--but he got his visa in 56 days!!!!!!

PLEASE EDIT YOUR TIMELINE IN YOUR PROFILE SO OTHERS CAN LEARN HOW LONG EACH STEP TAKES IN THIS PROCESS

And while unlikely, you can extend beyond a year by just interacting with NVC once in awhile--each time you do, the one year clock resets

Bolding mine. That's not true; I'm delaying getting through NVC myself, and the first thing I did was to pay the fees. NVC won't send the case to the embassy until all the documents and forms are in.
