fly out of miami... i got a flight on AVIANCA for $475 to caracas.. round trip.. and then $211 from Austin to miami round trip..

It really depends on the time of the year. Around the end of December is way more expensive than in say June. Also, flying out of Miami does seem like a good option. If you have a couple of layovers in New York or Chicago you can usually get an even cheaper flight, but you could be traveling for a really long time. I like the travel websites for comparison. Try Travelocity, Vayama, and I think there is one called Brazilexpress. You can do comparisons of several sites at once if you google cheap flights to Brazil. Also, there are some sites that will show you how the price differs when you choose to fly in the middle of the week vs. on weekends. Flying within Brazil can be really expensive, so if you can get a direct flight from the US to wherever you are trying to go, that is a better option as well.
