Absolutely disgusting. Neither one of the cops should stand a chance in hell of getting out of prison.

There’s an age old saying of; “when good cops go bad.” It should be coined more around the fact that bad people become cops and then often abuse their position of authority.

The video below was taken by a cell phone camera on the night of July 5 when Fullerton polices officers literally beat a schizophrenic man Kelly Thomas to death and ended up using a taser on him multiple times.

Kelly Thomas didn’t end up dying that night. Instead he spent five day in a hospital laying comatose from his injuries inflicted upon him from Fullerton Police officers Cpl. Jay Patrick Cicinelli and Manual Anthony Ramos. The two officers have been charged separate charges in the case based on testimony and witness accounts. Cicinelli has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and Ramos has been charged with second-degree murder. Ramos is believed to be the one who inflicted the most damage and did the majority of the beating on Thomas. Ramos could receive anywhere from 15 years to life in prison for his actions on that night. A lesser sentence of 4 years is possible for Cicinelli who is a 12-year veteran on the force in Fullerton.

This is another prime example of those who have been entrusted with the authority to look out for the public good; of abusing their power. This is why people in this day and age have such a disdain for police officers and anyone who would want to go into that field. They see these types of abuses day in and day out from simple traffic violations, to using tasers on individuals who are doing nothing more than arguing with an officer on what the officer wants him or her to do. It’s not that good cops end up going bad. It’s that bad people end up becoming cops.

To become a police officer in a major city is not an easy task. There are a multitude of academic, physical, and psychological tests that someone must go through to be even considered to become a part of the force. Criminal background and credit checks are even preformed to make sure that the individuals becoming officers are well fit to be a part of the department and aren’t some random lunatic joining the force. Unfortunately for those tests, they can’t weigh in the human nature aspect of things, which often times leads to disaster.

A lot of individuals who seek to become officers often seek power. They often seek dominance over others, whether it be on a conscious or subconscious level. The odds that someone is going to become and officer and abuse their power is quite high when you look at the little things that are done each and every day. Things that aren’t necessarily violent, but still put them above everyone else in society. It’s why so many girlfriends and wives of police officers end up being abused. Many find becoming an opportunity to thrive on power. Unfortunately, that leads them to be violent and overaggressive in ways that can lead to injury or death.

The case of Kelly Thomas is just that. It’s a couple of officers who felt that this smaller man, this mentally ill man was nothing to them. They wanted him to stop bothering drivers on the street corner, so they though they’d teachhim a lesson. Unfortunately that lesson ended up being his life. The officers used and abused their power like so many do. We see all the time when there are protest groups, when there are big government functions with large quantities of officers together. There are the ones who do their job and watch the crowd mindfully, but then there are those who grab peaceful protesters out of crowds and throw them to the ground violently to show absolute authority.

k-thomas.jpg

There is a growing epidemic and problem with police in this country. We make note of many of those problems in our 2009 article: “Police State: Protesters Voices Going Unheard.” A lot of it is supported by a government who is not willing to truly throw the book at officers who abuse their power. In a case where an officer brutally murders someone within an inch of their life and that person does end up dying, there shouldn’t even be an option for 15 years, it should be automatic death or even capital punishment. After all if a citizen murders a cop, it’s an almost guaranteed death sentence with the exception of a few cases. It’s a discrimination factor in favor of those who hold authority and the wrong message to send to the American populace.

We aren’t saying all cops are bad. There are plenty of good cops out there who do their job day-in and day-out and taking protecting the public very seriously. It’s unfortunate that a few bad seeds out there give cops the ‘PIGS” nickname. It’s the way things are though because little is done to weed out the bad eggs. Many police officers are members of unions who snatch them up as rookies and make it near impossible to get rid of them over minor offenses. The truth of the matter is though, is that all officers should be on a probation period for at least two-years to prove themselves as a public servant and not a public dictator.

The public deserves better officers in their community. Ones who won’t jump on top of them or tase them at the drop of a hat. Officers who are trained better to deal with human emotion when it’s placed right in front of them. Certain situations might warrant an officer using his nightstick or his taser, but there is never a scenario when an officer should ever beat a man to death. That is a power that no officer should have and one that should cost him not only his badge, but also his life outside of prison.

That's something that bothered me too. There's people who got on a bus talking about it. People video taping it. 151 witnesses allegedly and no one did a damn thing?

Sure, there were 5 cop cars there, but damn. Someone should have stepped up.

Baaaaah. Baaaaaaahhhhh.

We can't even question cops, let alone step in when they're beating someone to death.

I have no idea why we let them have guns

I have no problem with them having guns.

What I have a problem with is paying them to show up, in force, and "take care of things" when we should be handling them ourselves.

THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

SANTA ANA – Mentally ill transient Kelly Thomas died of asphyxia caused during a beating at the hands of Fullerton police officers at the Transportation Center in July, District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said Wednesday during a news conference at his office.

The coroner's death certificate lists the manner of death as homicide and the cause of death as asphyxia caused by "mechanical chest compression with blunt cranial-facial injuries sustained during physical altercation with law enforcement."

The district attorney said Thomas died because of the force of the officers on his chest, which made it impossible to breathe. Thomas fell unconscious, then slipped into a coma and died when taken off of life support five days later. The injuries to his face and his head, Rackauckas said, contributed to his death.

Also contributing to his death were brain injuries, facial and rib fractures, and the extensive bruising and abrasions he suffered during the beating, which left him lying in a "growing pool of blood," Rackauckas said.

The toxicology report shows that Thomas had no illicit drugs or alcohol in his system.

Thomas was severely bleeding and struggled and pleaded, "I can't breathe," "Dad, help me." But the officers did not reduce their level of force during the nearly 10-minute assault, the district attorney said.

"It's hard to watch and to listen to," Rackauckas said about the surveillance and cell-phone video and audio that captured the bloody beating. "He (Thomas) seems to know it's over just before it is."

Prosecutors have charged two of the six officers involved in the July 5 incident following an 11-week investigation.

Here is more and the pics of two monsters. I read about this after it happened and with a interview of the mans father. Couldn't imagine how he felt when he saw the video of his son yelling for him as he was being beaten to death.

Kelly Thomas: Father urges high bail in son's 'horrific' death

Two Fullerton police officers charged in the death of a homeless man made their first court appearance Wednesday afternoon, and one was set to be released on bail.

Orange County Dist. Atty. Tony Rackauckas took the unusual step of appearing in person for the arraignment of Officers Manuel Ramos and Jay Cicinelli, who are charged in the death of Kelly Thomas, 37. Thomas' father, Ron, also spoke out at Rackauckas' request during the arraignment.

Cicinelli pleaded not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter and the use of excessive force. He posted $25,000 bail and was slated to be released Wednesday. His next hearing is set Nov. 4.

Ramos' arraignment on charges of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter was postponed until Monday, as his attorney is out of town. He remains in custody with bail set at $1 million.

The issue of bail will be revisited Monday. When asked if he opposed a bail reduction, Rackauckas called up Ron Thomas, who asked the judge not to reduce the bail amount because of the "horrific way" his son was killed.

Cicinelli appeared in court in a two-piece suit and appeared calm, while Ramos wore a striped polo shirt. He was handcuffed and appeared nervous.

The judge ordered both officers to surrender their firearms when they are released from custody.

The court appearance came three hours after Rackauckas announced the charges at a dramatic news conference during which he gave a detailed and chilling narrative of the beating that resulted in Thomas' death.

Rackauckas said Thomas begged for his life as Fullerton police officers beat him and Tasered him July 5.

Ramos put latex gloves on his hands and brandished a fist at Thomas. Then, Rackauckas said, the officer, in a "menacing" manner, threatened Thomas: "These fists are ready to F you up."

Scared and bleeding, Thomas begged for his life. No one listened, Rackauckas said.

"Kelly Thomas appeared to be acting in self-defense, in pain, in a state of panic. His numerous pleas of 'I'm sorry,' 'I can't breathe,' 'help,' 'Dad,' all to no avail," Rackauckas said. "Screams, loud screams, didn't help."

"Kelly Thomas was not responding when blows to his face occurred," Rackauckas said, adding, "That is not protecting and serving."

Ramos' attorney, John Barnett, said his client was simply doing his job under difficult conditions when he tried to restrain Thomas.

"Officer Ramos was confronted that evening with a noncompliant suspect with a history of violence," Barnett said. "Officer Ramos had the responsibility and the duty to detain, restrain and arrest him."

Barnett said the district attorney had taken Ramos' threats out of context.

"To characterize that as a justification for Kelly Thomas to leave betrays a complete lack of understanding as to what happens in the street," Barnett said. "This was an attempt to use less force not more.... That does not a murderer make."

A large team of investigators from the Orange County district attorney's office spent 11 weeks combing through a mountain of evidence before a decision was made to file the criminal charges.

Key pieces of evidence included a 30-minute surveillance video taken from a pole camera at the downtown Fullerton bus station and digital audio recording devices carried by Fullerton officers.

Dana Page, Thomas' stepmother, said it was "numbing" to hear Rackauckas recite the details.

She said she was extremely happy with the charges, but said the four other officers involved in the case should also be charged.

"Nothing will bring Kelly back, but we miss him every day," she said. "We'll take the two for now."

Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Agreed with the sentiments expressed by most here, sigh man. One can see why they're sometimes called "pigs," oink man.

Note the classic statement in the article: "In a case where an officer brutally murders someone within an inch of their life..." First, if someone is brutally murdered, wouldn't that be beyond an inch of his life? Second, "someone" and "their" are mixing singular and plural, barf man.

While we're on the topic of this thread:

A USC, ordered on false pretenses to attend a Stokes interview at the ####### Guayaquil consulate, managed to bust through the Plexiglass and start strangling the consul, to the hearty cheers of all onlookers. While the two were wrestling around, they brushed against a bottle, from which popped a genie. The genie said, "I will give each of you one wish -- with the caveat that whatever the first of you wishes for, the second will receive twice that." The USC immediately said, "I wish to be half-dead!"

TO be fair, many times Cops use inhuman amounts of restraint at being spit on and insulted in the most vile way and then in other cases they do take on the roll of thugs.

Policing is a very blunt tool and in our society a necessary one,

at times I think they should knock heads and at other times, not.

They have a huge amount of power and oversight must be a constant to keep the beast which resides in any person from manifesting its self.

You can hear someone yelling, "that's enough." If anyone came near these monsters when they were dispatching this man they would have at the least been beaten the same or even shot.

Possibly. That's where that line in the sand has to be drawn. How much is it worth to you to intervene? Are you content standing by watching government personnel beat someone to death?

Most cops have small ####### syndrome and I think that's why so many cops beat their wives. When I was in the army, they took all the ding-a-lings who weren't smart enough to lace their boots and they made them MP's.

When I entered the Air Force I was qualified for every single job. I tested at the very top of the charts.

... and they made me a Security Forces troop. I guess I'm a ding-a-ling.

I agree with all of that except that part about needing them in our society. I absolutely abhor the fact that we pay many, many, many armed people to show up and physically apprehend people, keep them locked up for quite a while, and then keep an eye on them after they're released.

I don't think we need as much of a police presence as we have. I hate hearing things like, "they keep us safe" or "they protect us." That's BS. We're safe in America because there's no economic incentive to victimize those around you. Take that away (like urban areas) and all the sudden there's a market for it. Cops exacerbate the situation at a HUGE cost to budget. If that money were to be used for other things like education and tax breaks for businesses operating in urban communities, everyone would be safer.
