What a Biblical Marriage Really Looks Like

First of all, where in the world did you get this version of the text? Do you know who wrote it and to whom? I would assume you don't even have a basic theological understanding of scripture. You quote it out of context just like a Fundamentalist even though you seem to imply that you are Catholic (albeit a disgruntled one for not accepting Vatican II). St. Paul wrote this letter to the Romans primarily to spread the word that Christ died for everyone's sins, not just Jews. The early Romans were pagans who engaged in pagan rituals and so some of the early Christians in Rome were carrying over some of those practices. They were known to have orgies, animal worshiping, etc. The context (there's that word you despise) of that passage was referring to these pagan rituals.

Now, you're using Paul's reference to these 'unnatural' acts as a condemnation of homosexuality. If that was the Church's position, then homosexuality itself would be a sin. Also, if you are going to take everything Paul wrote throughout the New Testament, then you would endorse slavery among other shortcomings that Paul had. You see, Paul was a man and a sinner. He was not perfect and not every word he wrote was without error.

Again, what I said earlier - if you understand the real message of the Gospel, you would accept that God is all loving. The God of the Old Testament was a vengeful God full of wrath. The God of the New Testament is a God of mercy and love. All that is loving comes from God. All who experience love, experience Christ - whether they are Christian or not. Christ's love isn't exclusive, but inclusive (which is why we call ourselves Catholic - meaning universal). Two gay people, who truly love one another, are committed to one another - the love between them is from God. If we believe (which we Catholics do) that homosexuality isn't a choice, then the rational discernment of the real message of the Gospel is that these gay couples are experiencing Christ through their committed love for one another.

You seriously expect people to believe that this means what you claim?

God delivered them to degrading passions as their their females exchanged their natural sexual function for one that is unnatural. 27In the same way, their males also abandoned their natural sexual function toward females and burned with lust toward one another. Males committed indecent acts with males, and received within themselves the appropriate penalty for their perversion.

Ok here is another New Testament gem for you, pertaining to those who do not turn from their sin.

1 Corinthians 6

9Or do you not know that the unrighteousb will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,c 10nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Let the gymnastics begin.

:P

Just because someone is ok with having a pejorative for a nickname doesn't mean all will. The concern that an HR department has is not with the person who laughs at the joke, but someone else who would be offended by it. I suppose if you work for a small company, that wouldn't be a problem. I wouldnt' use any of those nicknames, you're just filling your enemies clip with ammo for them.

My employer has over 10,000 employees. And in that group someone may be offended at just about anything. I see women called "toots" and other names, I see plenty of stuff that someone "may" be offended at. It does not mean anyone ever will. I also have walked into a bank with a gun in my pocket, but I'm a good guy. I suppose I "may" rob the bank as I have the ability but not the motive, just like those who offend by accident. Abe Lincoln said You can please all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time. Ergo, you WILL offend someone, eventually.

How can you put up with such a horrific work environment? You should find a new job immediately.

I could have sued a thousand times for stuff I hear. But I have thick skin. And they pay me well. Does that make me a prostitute?

Maybe the VJ FB clan can post a list on here of words are and aren't acceptable.

Ooh, you said clan.

I don't follow his online soap opera I'm afraid. Perhaps I should.

The way you have your nose in everyone of these-type threads.... you should retain more about the players.

Why would someone want to keep track of the melodramatic tales of people like you?

I have worked in many different size companies and have yet to find one where using a slur as a nickname would be acceptable. I suppose it would if it is a group of friends, but, I find it odd that supervisors would allow that, it opens them up to all sorts of liabilities and scrutiny. BTW, kraut is a slur, and one my grandfather had to deal with for a majority of his life, despite not actually being German (He was Prussian). You can keep using the term as you see fit, but If you said it in a bar and someone got offended and knocked you out, police would see that as a mitigating factor.

This is one of the two I mentioned that uses "Arsenokoite". It is an unusual phrase because it was (I don't believe) used by anyone but Paul before this point. It seems to refer directly to the passage in Leviticus with the same phrasing of a proscription against "lying with" or "bedding" a man as with a woman. Some have argued that the word used by Paul also referred to a specific sex act (perhaps both here and Leviticus), since it's an unusual usage, different from the more common phrases used to describe homosexual acts and interactions at the time.

I'd only use such terms to the individuals, like their names, not to just anyone in a wheelchair, etc., at a bar or not. Kraut is a slur to you and your lineage, but not to my German friend. Calling me a cracker is supposed to be a slur, but you may as well call me a cinderblock. It has zero effect on me, even when you explain the origin of the word.

The way I see it, if you have to go so low as to pick on my physicality to insult me, I must be pretty awesome in all other respects. I see it not as an insult on my skin color or other factor, but an admission from you that there is nothing else you can rightfully say is wrong about me.

Actually, insulting someones physicality is one of the first (and laziest) things that people go for. It's the easiest insult to come up with. I'm sure you only use the term in front of people that you know, but as a supervisor, I would still not allow it. All it takes is for one person to get butthurt to file a hostile workplace lawsuit, then everyone gets the axe.

Plenty of people have a screwed up family. That's a fine excuse until you are an adult or old enough to seek help for it.

What about all those people who can't seem to avoid a worthless life because "I was born into this."?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Wheels was a supervisor before he retired. Now if you too were in a wheelchair it may be different.

I remind them that when I came to America I had no money and spoke no English. I have been homeless and cold. No one helped me but me, and look at me now. Some folks will think of any reason to give up.
