We have been trying for a very long time to get an appt. at the consulate in Montreal. We know there are so many people that are trying too. Does anyone know if there has ever been a case where you could not get an appt.? What would happen to the application process?

I don't think that can happen. Atleast I hope not, I am in the same boat! When I called the visa service I asked the lady on the phone if it was possible to go for the next 6 months checking every hour of every day and not get an appointment...and she said yes. So its definately a tough nut to crack!

No idea if this is viable or not but it seems to me ridiculous that Montreal now requires you to set the appointment and then has no dates available.

Why does not everyone who is involved in waiting for an appointment date write the US Ambassador to Canada a polite letter, explaining that you are going through the legal family based immigration and now are stalled waiting because the US Consulate in Montreal - the only one that does spousal visas - is so backlogged that there are no appointments available. Explain how long you have been waiting and how often you check. Polite and courteous letters sent from both the Canadian and the American partners could be sent to the Ambassador asking him to investigate the obvious problems and try to resolve the situation - or at least provide some options on how to get an interview after waiting all of this time. It may or may not shake something loose, but at the very least it will feel like you are doing 'something'.

Remember to be polite and don't demand - request- because rude or aggressive comments will not reach the Ambassador's ears but will probably end up being tossed aside. If enough polite letters and requests for help or investigation are received his staff will bring it to his attention. The Embassy website suggests including a stamped, self-addressed envelope for a response. http://canada.usemba...consulates.html

The name is Ambassador David Jacobson, http://canada.usemba...ambassador.html . There are a variety of mailing options depending on where you live and if you are using a courier or mail so check the link here: http://canada.usemba...ns.html#address

He also has a Blog where he encourages Canadians to contact him by email so you could also try that: http://blogs.ottawa....gov/ambassador/ and there are Facebook and twitter and other social media contacts listed at the bottom of the embassy page. http://canada.usembassy.gov/index.html

You should also copy the Consulate General in Montreal with your letter to the Ambassador:

Acting U.S. Consul General, Scott Boswell,

Mailing Address from within Canada

Mailing Address from within the US:

Anyway, good luck to those who are willing to try this option. It may help and as long as you are polite and courteous and requesting help it won't hurt.

I also think that is a good idea... it is crazy that people lives are being on hold for there lack of communication and organization. Every other embassy, including Vancouver seems to have it together so I don't understand this with Montreal...if there is this problem why can't we be transferred to the embassies in the states to be interviewed..especially now that they have made it so there is no DCF.
