Although the Diversity Visa participation was free, the law and regulations require to every diversity visa winner to pay a visa processing fee of $819 . The Diversity Visa(Green Card) is guaranteed upon receiving the payment.

The per person fee for each Diversity Visa is $819, payable in U.S. dollars or equivalent of your local currency. This $819 fee is the only fee a winner needs to pay throughout the entire relocation process.

Accompanying family members(wife/husband, fiancee, brothers, sisters, childrens, cousins) may be included in the program and their visas will be provided at the same time with yours so you can travel/move together in the same time. Obviously a scam email. Names not starting with a capital letter is reason enough to ignore and delete. Sending money to an individual via Western Union is the absolute indicator.

It seems like a scam.. US Government Emails end with .gov not .com...

Search for the email address on Google, you'll find some scam alerts...

I would not be sending money the way the email directs you to at this point. I have no experience with the lottery I admit but that email looks like a scam to me.

I just did a quick google search and you should really check it out more thoroughly with the USCIS dept responsible for the lottery.

How did you fare in the in the DV-2011 lottery? Notifications to the randomly-selected diversity visa or "green card lottery" winners are were sent between May and July 2010. Following is some information about the DV-2011 lottery results from the State Department Diversity Visa Program website.

Winner Notification

If you are chosen as a lottery winner, an official letter from the U.S. Department of State Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) in Williamsburg, Kentucky will be sent to the mailing address that you provided in your entry. Wow, free health insurance for a year? Housing? I had a friend who came here on the visa lottery and he didn't get any of that!! Obviously a scam as you are supposed to send money to them via Western Union. A bunch of bunk! Now you will start to recognize other scams as they come your way, as they have a similar format. You must be on a mass emailing.

In my opinion you didn't even have to read the mail to know it is a scam. It clearly states on the Department of State website that you would not receive any confirmation via email or mail. Only way you would know you are a winner, is if you enter your confirmation number (the one you received when you entered the lottery) on their website.

How can I tell an e-mail regarding a win in the DV- Lottery is a scam?

1) I did not even participate in the lottery

2) They want money from me.

3) The e-Mail does not have a .gov address.

4) They use the word "win"

5) The notification comes when the selection process is long over.

You have either 4 out of 5 or 5 out of 4, as I don't know if you even participated.

Maybe I should leave the US and apply for the diversity lottery. I could really use that free health insurance, apartment, and guaranteed job. I'll sell you my swamp land in Arizona in exchange for it.
