It's been three and a half weeks now. We sent it August 25. I'm now calling DOS daily to see if they have record of it. So far they still don't. They said at the four week mark (this Thursday) we should consider it lost and mail another. I hate this. I really wanted him here by Halloween. And I want to get married 11/11. That way we don't have to argue about whose dates are right! Grumble.

That's all. Just grumble.

Why not 12/12 or something similar. Will do the same effect.

Well, I feel a tiny bit better. 12/12 is ok I guess...but 11/11/11 is way cooler :P I'm back to over it now. As much as one can be, that is.

My advice is the same as "rugby guys". The same thing happened to me after 6 weeks of waiting, we resubmitted Packet 3 and called the Embassy the same day explaining our situation and they gave us the Email Code.

They replied to our email 2/3 days later with an Interview Date.

Mine was also lost, they told us to wait 7 weeks...only to then tell us they only had the DS-230...which was interesting as we never sent in that form alone, but along with others. I agree. E-mail them. They seemed to find our paperwork it seems after we called them on it with recorded delivery receipts. However, I don't have a lot of confidence in the Consulate at this point. We just got another letter, AFTER we got an interview date that they still don't have all of our paperwork, but they do, thrice now. I had them sent in with a Congressional inquiry through a State Senator. I really don't know how they manage to accomplish anything! Best of luck!

We were in the same boat last week - actually, today was our 4 week mark. I ended up getting my congresswoman involved - she contacted them on Monday evening (London would have gotten the email on Tuesday) and magically on Thursday morning our case was found and logged!! I know you feel, as soon as we hit the three week mark I was very grumpy and frustrated!

One of the last women I spoke to at DOS said she used to work at the London embassy - she said August/beginning of September is a crazy month and things get slowed down quite a bit b/c people are being reassigned - etc - so that is why people who sent it in in that time frame might be waiting longer than normal -they are just back logged b/c they are working on a skeleton staff. Not sure how true that is - or if she really even worked there - but it made sense to me...

I know that you have set your wedding date, but I'd give it a little more time. From your timeline in your signature, I see that you just had your medical on the 5th of September. It takes approximately 4 days for them to submit the results to the Embassy. AFTER the Embassy receives everything (your DS-xxx forms, DS-2001 and the results from the medical) it takes 3-4 weeks for the Embassy to log your packet (I was told this when I called DOS). If you consider that the Embassy probably didn't receive the results of your medical until the 9th of September, it hasn't even been 2 whole weeks yet. Just be patient...I'm sure everything will be fine.

Best of luck to you!

Has everybody read the FAQs on the London website?

I sent in my completed forms to the Immigrant Visa Unit, when will I be scheduled an appointment for my interview?
If you have submitted the completed forms in connection with the administrative processing of your application, you should allow approximately three months for your case to be processed. During this period, we regret we cannot provide information on the status of the application or confirm if the forms have been received. Please note that you will not receive notification of the date and time of the visa interview until the Immigrant Visa Unit has received the results of the medical examination.

During this period, we regret we cannot provide information on the status of the application or confirm if the forms have been received. So why are you asking them to?

They aren't set up to know what's in your file at any given time. They don't scan your file and thus record "touches" as documents move through the system like USCIS. You're wasting their resources calling the embassy 'just to check'. My suggestion is to let them do their job. Don't call in Congress, the National Guard or the Queen until the following things (all of them) have arrived at the embassy AND have had 3 weeks to process.

  1. DS-156, DS-156k, DS-157, DS-230 part 1
  2. Medical exam (4 days past date attended if no further issues)
  3. DS-2001 Readiness for Interview with requested cover letter

When you are certain all three things have arrived because you sent them with delivery confirmation and 3 weeks have passed, then start checking up with them. They aren't set up to hold your hand through this. Leave the lines and people free for those who really do have problems or can't get through to pay. I can't help but think some of this panic du jour is because you are expecting something they aren't set up to provide. They tell you that in the FAQ. Yes there are some that are truly not received but many people recently are expecting too much too soon.

I sent my packet 3 back on the 24th August, after several phonecalls to the DOS and getting told eventually to "Use the other number" I called on Wednesday morning to find out my case has finally been logged and I should get my interview date in the mail sometime in the next week :)

Keep your head up and be strong, chances are they have it and are logging it and you won't be too far behind me :)

We had hoped for an initial wedding date of Nov 10th but now it's looking more like a Christmas wedding! lol

All will be fine, good luck and best wishes to you both ^_^
