Help. Confused with timeline

I submitted the I130 and we're waiting for the approval of that which is supposed to the be second week of October according to the VJ timeline. What I don't understand is that once it gets to the NVC, how long will it be to get the visa? I've looked at the timelines and read posts on the forum, but it looks like it is dependent on the individual embassy. So if one embassy is busy and backed up, it could be much longer, correct? My wife is in Moscow and they're notorious for beauracracy. It was a nightmare getting married. What should have taken one week ended up three weeks because we needed to get an "official stamp" to approve another "official stamp"!

Anyway, one of the timelines says it takes about 10 days to process at the consular and yet if I add those days up, it is much less then the total days from NOA1 to interview timeline which is almost 9 months! I wonder if we made a mistake to get married instead of go the K1/fiance route which we thought would have taken much longer.

Anyone with CR1 with Moscow Embassy experience who could shed some light on my confusion? Or maybe someone who understands these timelines.

ALSO, I'm considering trying to get her a tourist visa (which is extremely hard to begin with, right?) but if we have to wait another 3-5 months, I'm thinking of giving it a shot and see so she can spend some time here in Los Angeles with me while we wait. This won't mess up our CR1 visa application right?

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the process times of the Moscow Embassy but you are correct in that this process with take approximately 9 months from beginning to end and that is if you don't get RFE's etc and your process goes smoothly. This timeline is also hugely effected by your embassy. 9 months could easily turn into 12 months depending on how quickly you can get an interview at your embassy.

Hopefully someone with more experience with your embassy will post soon. :)

Good luck on your journey!

I am not sure either of the time lines in Moscow but for me it took around 5-6 months for NVC to process and close my case and give me an interview date. This is in Chennai, india. It could take less too depending on how fast you arrange all your paperwork. And applying for a tourist visa is a waste of time, money and energy coz you won't get it. Tourist visa is a non-immigrant visa and immigration applicants don't qualify for that category. There are thousands of people just like you waiting to reunite with their families and i highly doubt they are going to have any special sympathy towards one particular case. I can say this because i had applied for a tourist visa myself and got rejected. 6 months isn't that long, it'll pass. I am getting my visa now after 4 years of my marriage coz my husband was LPR and just turned USC last year. So don't feel bad. There are people who have waited terribly longer than you have or ever will have to. Be patient, when its done, it will be done forever... Goodluck!

She can apply for a tourist visa during this process, however, odds are high that one will not be issued.

Denial of a tourist visa in of itself will not have any affect on your petition.
