The freedom from war that gives wings to his heart,

May they reach across the miles and bind our hearts together

3rd, we were shown a video clip of Magandang Gabi Bayan, an old show of Noli de Castro from more than a decade ago? It featured 3 cases of domestic abuse in different forms (physical, emotional, financial/mental) by foreign spouses of Filipinas. The title of the episode is "Karanasan/Kapalaran ng Pilipina sa Dayuhan" (Experience of Filipinas with Foreigners). Can't find it online though.

We were asked about our individual reactions. I expressed mine which is in sense goes like this, "The key is, regardless of being married or not to a Filipino or a foreigner, you have to be vigilant, self-reliant and ready with a contingency plan for the worst scenario. The scenarios presented to us are not limited to foreigners alone, even Filipinos hurt their wives. No one have a good grasp of what's going on another person's mind may they be spouse, friend, sibling or stranger. So, it's important to be prepared for the worst and save some for yourself."

I had my CFO at SMEF-COW as well and it went all good, important is you're done and thank God your journey is almost over, you'll finally be with your hubby. I agree to what you've said :thumbs:have a safe trip ;)

And about the videos, like CFO's info.. those vids are telling us that the notion most of pinoy has about marrying a foreigner or even pinoy and is in USA will give them good life. Well, it's not exactly what everyone will have, it's just a reminder for everyone to keep our minds intact with reality. :D:hehe:

I totally feel the same way. It's such a nonsense and a total waste of time. I have a lil similar experience in Cebu. I actually got pissed because they were asking for some requirements that werent even posted on their site or on the instructions in a K1 packet. And I cant see the point on why I have to introduce myself to everyone else! I mean, I dont care about them, nor they care about me!

I asked them how they would be able to help me when I'm in the US. They answered by the book. And then I followed up some questions if they helped the Filipinos in detention in Saudi Arabia coz they've undergone the same seminar and paid the same fee. And they said theyve done something, and I told them straight in the face "I dont think so!" Mainly because I saw in TV patrol how the Filipinos in detention area were treated by the Philippine Embassy itself- horrific! They got that you're-crazy-look at me. Oh well!!

My wife also had her CFO seminar on Tuesday, and she said many of the same things everyone else has. Strangely enough, they asked her for my address and telephone number (which she didn't have on her) so she had to return the next day to get her certificate.

Sorry I'm lost about the location of the CFO described previously. Is there other CFO office other than the one located along pres quirino and osmena highway intersection? I'm going with my daughter ( F2A emigrant) to CFO next month. Appreciate your help.

  • 2 months later...

I had my CFO seminar at Good Shepherd back in 2007, I can't remember clearly the procedure but I do remember the horror video and how horrible the seminar went. We were divided in different rooms according to country of destination. After the horror video we proceed to the individual interview session, the interviewer ask me some questions about my husband and she said I have to learn how to prepare his meal since he's been living in the US for a while, she said "maybe he likes cereal for breakfast now". And from my form, she learned that I'm not catholic, and commented that I should be catholic.

Oh well, overall, I still think the seminar is useless, waste of time and money. I appreciate that they provided contact numbers in case of "worst case scenario", but they can just hand out booklets so we won't have to endure that horrible seminar.

I think the CFO seminar is helpful if done/presented in a better way..

CONTENT: I agree that they don't seem to be as knowledgeable on the topic as they should be. It sounded to me like they just memorized what they were saying.

CONSISTENCY: They are not consistent on how they execute the seminar. I was fortunate enough that I didn't have to go through hours of lecture and watching a video. We were just 5 in there and I think the discussion took less than an hour as opposed to other experiences that I read here in vj.

additional PAYMENTS: although not required, you wont have a choice if you did not bring enough copies of your documents. And since their website does not tell you what the complete requirements (particularly on copies) you need to bring, you'll be forced to go to their photocopy service. which, you are right, is very over-priced.

INFORMATION ON WEBSITE: as mentioned above, incomplete and inaccurate info. It says in their website registration starts at 7:30. However when I went there at 7:30, they said it opens at 8am. It would also be helpful if they add information on what details you need to prepare such as complete name(including mother's maiden name), address and contact #(landline) of husband/fiance. When I was there, the other three attendees had to contact their husbands/fiances to get those information which was a hassle because of the cost of long distance call and not to mention the time difference

ONE ON ONE COUNSELING: We didn't introduce ourselves in the seminar so that's good. However, I didn't like how they did the one-on-one counseling though. First, I actually didn't expect that there would be one-on-one. Anyway, it was in a room where everyone was there. So everyone can actually hear your conversation with the CFO lady. And I didn't like it because there were personal questions that were asked, not really confidential but still personal. It would have been better if they did it in a closed door office.
