We have our forms filled in and preparing to send them off Can you guys tell me the exact amount of the fees because we've heard different amounts from different people. Can you guys give me any tips and anything to look out for also? Much appreciated

You can find the exact fees here... http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

However, there are lots of help you'll find in example forms and also people's experience here.. Goodluck!!

You should be posting on the AOS from work, student or tourist visa forum, you'll get more responses there :)

First thing you need to check is whether or not you are subject to the 2 year home residency requirement that is sometimes associated with the J1 visa. If you are, you need that requirement waived before you can proceed with the AOS process.

Let's assume you are not subject to this rule. In that case, yes, you file all those forms. You also need the medical exam done before sending out the package, and your wife needs to fill out the I-864 affidavit of support form.

the fees for the forms and biometrics are fixed - $420 for the I-130, and $985 for I-485 + $85 for biometrics. All together $1,490 for those, plus whatever is the cost of your medical and possible vaccinations you may need. All this information is available on USCIS website, which should become your best friend during this process - check everything from there, as sometimes information on other sites may be outdated.
