That a Palestine becoming a secular state.

Well that's not what I said. Sousuke asked me my personal opinion - did I want to see a Palestine and no Israel. I never insinuated that I am leading some sort of movement to convince Palestinians and Israelis to jump aboard the secular one- state solution train (although they're already doing that on their own.)

Never meant that. I meant Good luck on just getting a Palestinian state to be secular. I read where you said the PA wanted that.

Well... that's what they stated. Again, I don't have anything to do with getting them to be this or that. And it's very possible that their idea of secular may not match yours. There is a strong tradition of Sharia in Palestinian law, but it's also got other traditions mixed in - old Ottoman land laws, British Mandate regulations, Jordanian civil law in the West Bank, Egyptian civil law in Gaza, and one of the most important - urf (customary law.) This is the old custom of referring disputes to respected community elders to arbitrate. These various systems sometimes overlap - especially urf - and you will find judges in the civil courts even delaying actions in a case to await the decision of customary law.

I understand my ideas of a Secular state will differ. I read where the PA is stating they wanted a Secular state. From what I also read most Arab states does not want a Secular state at all. These same Arab states gives a lot of money and such.

What I was saying good luck to was to you and you wanting a Secular state. I agree with you that I like that idea. No argument is needed as I agreed with you. If you want to argue anyway we can.star_smile.gif
