I FINALLY got ahold of someone! She said my husband shouldn't have a problem paying in-state tuition since I personally have been gone less than 4 years. Can you believe that?? I was gone 3 years and 10 months. Lucked out there!

Now the questions is, what to major in? Hubby's a genius at numbers, so we're thinking accounting. Esp. since he already did a year of it in Uni in Ontario.

Thanks for your replies, everyone. :)

Accounting is more about rules than math; I used to test accounting software and our CPA used to boggle at the algebraic equations written on my white board.

If he's really talented at math, maybe he should look into actuarial studies or engineering.

Yeah, but actuary takes yeeeeeeeears of school, doesn't it?

You can become an actuary with a math degree or a degree in actuarial science. Or, if you're clever enough to pass the exams without those degrees, a degree in anything! It takes a long time to get fully credentialed but it takes as long to get a math degree as it does to get an accounting degree. Some states like their accountants to have master's degrees nowadays, so it may even take less time.

While you're passing the actuarial exams, you can work as an actuary; lots of blue chip companies have actuary trainee schemes, and they usually make decent money right out of school. Only hitch is you have to keep passing the exams, but many companies give their trainee actuaries time off to study. I work at an insurance company and the actuaries studying for exams work maybe 20-25 hours a week...and still make twice the average national salary.

Hmm, the more I think about it the more *I* want to be an actuary!
