Hello everyone!

Hope everyone is doing well in their "visa journey" and is surviving the long distance relationship... :-P

Just wondering how everyone's wedding plans are coming along?

We had to change our date a few times, the visa pushed it back and then we got double booked and stuff... but other than that it seems to be going perfect and everything is sorted... except a registrar... maybe the most important part! we better get on it!

anyone doing anything fun?

Very small, immediate family only wedding a couple of weeks after he gets here. Thankfully, my sisters best friend is a chef, and, owns a house in Bar Harbor - which she has agreed to rent to us. She will also cook the food - it is more of a intimate "dinner party" so our families can get to know each other, really. Because she's a friend of the family, she is flexible in the dates. My father was ordained and will be performing the ceremony. Again, flexible to our needs.

In the spring, 2nd week of May, we will hold a reception/wedding bash, where co-workers, friends and extended family will be invited to celebrate our marriage and the beginning of our lives together.

I would have preferred to have everybody at the wedding and call it a day - but with deposits and the uncertainty of this process - it was just unfair to everybody, including ourselves, to expect this. Honestly, if we had gone with our original thought process and timeline, we would've already been in trouble - we thought for sure we'd be done and dusted by early November, but, due to an unforeseen circumstance with his medical (military related), we are a few weeks behind.

I am thrilled with what we have decided to do - and it has really taken a lot of stress off of the both of us (the what ifs if it didn't work out on time were killing me!)...

That sounds great though! sorry to hear you have been delayed. Its lucky that you have family who can help host it cause they will be flexible :-)

We are having ours for 60 people, and we are making it a weekday evening so people don't have to worry about time off work cause it is such short notice. None of my family are coming from the UK, but we plan to have a party in Scotland next year sometime.

Doing a lot of "DIY chic" which is funny, cause people will think I am trying to be fashionable when in actual fact its all we can afford after this visa process! Thankfully I bought my dress on ebay in January like a week after we got engaged, otherwise that would have been one of the compromises no doubt.

So we are on for november 1st now. Kinda annoying cause we wanted to go on a road trip for the honeymoon and now its gonna be close to thanksgiving and bad weather!

Most of his immediate family will be coming over from Scotland for the weekend. My family will be flying in from another state (and can you believe it, it will cost just about the same as those coming from the UK!! Crazy!) I think there will be 15 total, including my fiance and I!! We just discussed the dinner choices tonight!

I'm hoping that he will be here for Thanksgiving, although I know that's doubtful, but that's the week we met - and it's very dear to the both of us!!

I will be watching for your review of the embassy after the interview!! Good luck!!! I hope our interview date comes quickly after his second medical appointment!! I just can't wait to get him here!!!

Its crazy! My mum has had a lot of problems with the UK passport people, and my sister can't afford it. Shame they haven't invented teleportation yet... would save a lot of 14-18 hour journeys!

I am glad to make thanksgiving and Halloween, I really wanted to see both. Shame our wedding is the day after halloween I can't go crazy with my hair like I usually do.

I hope you guys manage it. Try not to get worked up about what visa journey says. By some standards I wouldn't have had an interview until late october and I was fully prepared for it and was getting really down about it. They may surprise you!

I will do, just going to book my train tickets just now :-/

Ahh - good luck with the train tickets! Allan took the train to his first medical, but, found a flight for his second medical that was actually cheaper than the train!!! That train ride sounds awful - just b/c it takes so long!!

Well, it's good that you got your interview a bit faster than normal. Perhaps that gives us a bit of hope!!

Have you been in the states for Thanksgiving yet?? Allan really enjoyed it last year! My favorite part is watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade on TV - so make sure you do that!!

Not yet, this will be my first. I will definitely have to do that! I remember them doing it in friends, it will be surreal to see it!

I booked the sleeper so I don't have to stay overnight. Seems I got the last ticket at a decent price! I really hate flying which is funny cause I have done 11 flights this year alone! Where abouts is he from?

The first time Allan went to his medical he took the train - all in one day!! It was such a long day - that's why he decided to do the plane this time. I didn't realize there was a sleeper option!!

He lives right outside of Glasgow - but grew up in Edinburgh. :)

You must be SO excited to have your train booked now!!! You're interview is so close!! How exciting!

We're trying to have as "normal" of a wedding as possible despite the obvious inconveniences. We decided booking a reception venue is way too risky especially since we are dealing with a very fickle consulate.

I think we will have our wedding reception at my parent's house for numerous reasons the best being that it's always available and no deposits!

Also it suits my fiance too because traditionally Indians married at their parent's homes.

As for the actual ceremony, we are combining both Christian and Hindu traditions, for example I will wear a white dress but add a red sash or maybe a red veil to echo a traditional Indian bride. We are also doing the unity candle and after we are pronounced husband and wife Mr. SinghSingh will put Sindoor (traditional red powder worn by married Indian women in the part of their hair)on my head.

I like the way things are turning out. I think this process is making us realize we do not need a huge lavish wedding affair, we just want to have a nice ceremony, enjoy the reception with family and friends, and start our lives together!

I am the petitioner.

Tent, fairy lights, and a pig roast with as much of my large family and his far away family as we can gather on my grandparent's ranch.

At the rate this visa is going, it will probably be sometime close to our two year anniversary : D

We had planned on getting married November 5th (got wrong info from USCIS and everything was planned/ booked) but luckily, thanks to people on here, we decided to push it back to March 17th (I'm marrying a Scotsman on an Irish holiday!!). We will get married in my church (going there for 26 years)then have the reception at the Great Room at Savage Mill, a beautiful banquest hall where my sister was married! We'll be doing a civil ceremony, though once he gets here so we can get married within the 90 days and we can start on his AOS and EAD peperwork. Nothnig like planning your wedding around the government's schedule!
