Acquiring a new passport ?

I am the beneficiary. My passport expires in December and I have just received NOA2.

Due to my job I require a passport that does not expire within 3 months so I am getting a new one this week. Do I have to tell the USCIS or the NVC?

My new passport will obviously be a different number and wont match the photocopies submitted with my I-130.

Thanks in advance.

hi,

we had the same situation but it was back 2010,i came from philippines so it might be different to yours,

but anyways.,from what my thought when yuou proceed for your paper work, attach your old and new passport together and make a copy of both so in that way they will figure out that it simply "you"on different passport number.,as long as the name doesnt change on new passport.

good luck to you for next step.

second option.,

try calling nvc and talk to somebody there and ask about your passport.it wouldnt hurt you if you ask right?i assume there is a hotline number to be called for more information.

As beneficiary you shouldn't have needed to send a copy of your passport in w/ the i-130 unless something has recently changed.

My wife renewed her passport as soon as we had the NOA2. You will be fine w/ renewing your passport. Just make sure the name in your passport is what you want on your greencard.

I renewed my passport just after sending the electronic DS-260. I sent the necessary original documents by courier (didn't realize I could scan and email them, doh!) and in that package I sent a copy of my bio page of the passport as requested, but I also sent a copy of my passport application, so they would realize I was getting it updated. My "original" passport was set to expire Sept 13/11, so I *had* to renew it irregardless of my last name changing.

They simply asked for the new one when I had my interview in Montreal on Sept 2nd, and updated my paperwork to my married name (the passport MUST be in the name you want your Visa issued in).

Best of luck. :)

Beneficiary's passport copy is required at the NVC process with DS-230 (Visa application). Hence no issue.
