Yes you will need to have it translated. Make sure it is the long form of the birth certificate with your parents names on it. Also make a copy of it and the translation, Montreal will want a copy of both and give you back the originals.

My quebec bc came with a separate page that had all the explanations on the back, I also printed it out from the website. the translation and they were fine with that. but they may actually require and english one, or you can just have the english translation copy notarized.

I'm also preparing my documents for the interview. I was born in quebec so my birth certificate is in french. I assume I need to get that translated.

I feel like i'm studying for a big exam. I hope i get everything right.

I was also born in Quebec and got my long form birth certificate translated and notarized by a commissioner of oath. It was also stamped with a raised ATIO seal (association of translators and interpreters of Ontario). I'm going off of memory here but I believe that either Pkt3 or Pkt4 specifies that the translation must be done by a certified translator, not just anyone who's bilingual, and additionally must be notarized. How strict they are about this, I don't know- I imagine they may be a little more relaxed about it considering the consulate is in Montreal but I wouldn't take any chances. I also *think* the requirements regarding translations are more relaxed for IR1/CR1s than K1s.

I had my interview last month and they kept the notarized copy of my birth certificate translation- so I would say you should get this done. And also as someone already noted, it's handy to have a translation with you for future documentation.
