Thanks.

Hello,

We got two emails from NVC including DS-3032 and AOS fee bill. I have a question:

We don't want my mom to come to US now (or soon). We preferably want her to be here mid November. I'm thinking to delay one of the steps. Which one do you recommend?

Posted

I wouldn't delay any of it. Once granted, your mom will have 6 months to activate her visa.

Thanks,By activating visa, you mean enter the US?Is it 6 months or 3 months?

Yep. Once she gets the visa, it'll be valid for 6 months. The visa is "activated" at the POE (Port of Entry/immigration). Meaning she has 6 months from the visa is issued to enter the US, or you have to start the process over from scratch.

I also probably wouldn't delay it. If you're planning to have her in the US by November, and you're already at the NVC stage, you're looking at her having the visa in hand in about 2 months or so. So if she gets it in July, she'll have until January to enter.

Thank you JJC for explanation, very helpful.

Do you know a way to make sure of that 6 months for Iranian citizens? Maybe a link to a document on their website?

The reason being: people from certain countries (including Iran) have some limitations, for example their students visas are (were) not multiple entry and etc.

Thanks

You can look at the American Embassy in Iran for that if you have any doubt but it should work the 6 months in any country!

there is no american embassy in iran, remember the tension between the 2 countries. my mom needs to go to a 3rd country to have her interview done. but i will look into that country's us embassy's website.

FYI... I checked with other people who recently went through the same path, the expiration date is 3 months after the issuance. I understand it is different from country to country. For most countries it's 6 months, but for Iran, it's 3 months.

---Thanks
