Maybe when the Romans slaughtered them?

There was one...

I remember seeing it in the Life of Brian.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Prior to that the Romans massacred 1.1 million Jews including women and children.

Romans were big on that, even toward their own troops.

The Mongols had a way that seemed to work, any trouble and they would massacre a village, any more and then another until the populace got a clue.

The Prophet could have got his idea from either or all.

I think the instructions are in the bible somewhere. Maybe he found a bible in his hotel room and read it.

Unlikely in the Arabian Peninsula.

Why? There were Christians on the Arabian peninsula.

Idea for what?

No " Holy day Inns" In the Arabian Penisula?

In February 1975, Dr. Abdullah Masry, the first director of the department, fielded a team of archeologists on a preliminary expedition to several sites in the Eastern Province of the kingdom, not far from the Arabian Gulf. At the same time the department launched a program - still underway today - to record and preserve the great pilgrimage road from Baghdad to Mecca; called the Darb Zubaidah, the road, and its chain of inns and wells, was built in the eighth century and was a principle Arabian highway for some 450 years.
