Flu Shot

Woking Medical says we need the influenza shot from October - February each year. My medical appointment is on October 5th. Where can I go to get this flu shot? It doesn't appear to be released yet. I got a shot last year on October 15, 2010. Is that good enough to satisfy the requirement?

Nope you have to have the shot this year if you are in the time frame for the shot. Ask your personal doctor or go to a travel clinic to have the shot done.

What about when filing for AOS? The medical was done in July, so no flu shot was needed.

But now lets say we submit the AOS paperwork first week of October (with the imunization documents from Toronto K-1 medical). Do we need a flu shot?? And how do I submit that without having to get a civil surgeon to do the entire medical again?

Hmmmm....my appointment is on Sept 29, but I won't be moving til mid-Oct. I would really like to avoid getting this shot if I could. Any thoughts???

After succesfully avoiding the flu shot my entire life, last year I got the flu and it warped into Pneumonia, and it was absolutely terrible and I will now be getting the flu shot every year for the rest of my life. I'll be first in line, haha.

Also - you might be able to avoid it for your interview, but when it comes time to do your AOS and your shots are incomplete on the worksheet, you might get an RFE to do the I-693, so might be worth just getting it now to save yourself the time and money of the RFE.

If you get an RFE for the I-693, you can call around to various civil surgeons in your area to see if they'll fill out JUST the I-693 form and not require you to do an entire medical over again. Sometimes you have to really call around, but many people have done it successfully.

I called just about every medical agency I know and all of them say the shot may not be arriving before my medical appoiment. I emailed Woking so hopefully they give me some advice and I will share it for anyone else with a medical in early October.

Woking may be able to give it to you since they are an immigration clinic. Generally they have to have these things on hand and early. But do post what they say when you hear back from them good.gif

Just sent another email after not getting a response to my first one. I'm sure they're just busy or something. I don't know why I'm so nervous about this of all things. I guess I don't want any delays because of a simple flu shot--something I get every year anyway, it's just bad timing for this year. :bonk:

You don't have to get the flu shot from them on Oct 5th. If you find another place that gets a batch before the medical or before the interview, you should be fine. You will just need proof that you got the shot. Some places my get the shots early, but they may save it for higher risk people like the eldery, etc etc. best of luck!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
