Hello,

my wife's daughter would like to visit on a B2 visa. How should we go about this process, should I fill out form I 134 affidavit of support or would a simple invitation letter stating that I am willing to support her during her visit and the length of stay. She is 25 and single living and working in Kiev but not much else, she can show that she shares ownership of my wife's apartment in Ukraine along with her sister. Any ideas that would help her chances of getting a B2 visa?

Thanks.

wrong place not a K1 petition.

she has to file the tourist visa on her own. she'll have to show strong ties to her country of origin.

Can she not pay her own way?

her mother will pay for her ticket and we will give her room and board, she has her own spending money. Does anyone have any experience with this. I just want to make sure that I am covering all my bases and that I don't forget anything that might help her.

These tourist visas can be very difficult to obtain. The approval always hinges on the strongest ties rule. This means her ties to her country are so strong that she MUST return. Sharing ownership of dwellings isnt enough. Indicating she cant support herself isnt a good idea. It serves to show she is dependent on you.

A 25 year old will find it very difficult to overcome the USCIS idea that " all people with visas are considered intending immigrants".

The only way to ever know is for her to pay the fee & try. Its expensive & she has little chance of getting approved.

Ties to family, jobs, school ect are the best way to approach the attempt.

A lot is consulate specific, some are relatively easy, and some are tough. I have been trying to get my step daughter here to visit for over a year. She is 24 years old, works full time at a call center, and goes to college full time. Every time she goes for a tourist visa the interviewer basically says she needs to quit trying as her immediate family is in the states. I honestly think they make the decision before the interview.

We have sent her on vacation to Hong Kong, and Malaysia to get some stamps on her passport to show she doesn't violate the rules. We will try again next month again, with a letter from one of my Senators, and a personal letter from me to the Chief of the Non-Immigrant visa section. Maybe some day they will get tired of seeing her and give her the darn visa.

Be advised though, the interviewer has never looked at a single document she brought. That's the reason this time I am sending them directly to the Embassy.

I am sure that is the case in the vast majority of circumstances.

It can do no harm.

Usually it is the Consulate that handles these issues, not sure how they would ever tie up the documents even if they wanted to.

My bad, I meant the consular section of the US Embassy Manila. I used Embassy as a generic term.
