If your fiancé can't make you happy on that special day, why get married??? I may seem arrogant but that's just because I know what I want..anyway, a wedding is all about the bride..Hahaha

Me and my fiancé we didn't plan the wedding coz we end up arguing at first..Lol ! Until I let him decide of his plans of our wedding..if she makes me happy or hate him the rest of our life..Hahahha!!! Btw, it's really depending on what you both feel.it's a matter of compromise coz my fiancé explain it to me can't have a big wedding within 90 days...sOo true

Goodluck everyone!!!

I think that as long as you can pay for much more than 75% of what you are wishing for ,you can put such pressure on your partner.

A wedding is indeed about the bride , but also about the groom. And well , there has to be a middle point, after all that is what marriage is about is not about becoming ONE but understanding that WE ARE TWO.

Wedding in U.S is costly. Even though my husband can afford but he does not come from a big family. So, what we do is just have civil marriage in City Hall and hire professional wedding photographer. The pictures turn out very well and it is one of our memorable day for us. Maybe you can do the same. Here is our Civil Marriage in City Hall slideshow.

The next time you go back to your country, you can do your dream wedding. We went back to Malaysia recently and we had religious and reception ceremony. It only cost us $15,000 and we had 300 guests. I have to admit this is my dream wedding and I love it :luv:

Those are great photos, nicely done.

I think "simple wedding" is an oxymoron.

Having been to dozens of weddings when I used to be a restaurant bartender*, and of course those of friends of mine, I'd have to agree. No matter how simple people try to make it, once you have more people than the statutory requirement for witnesses, it seems to get complicated. :)

* - There was one particularly memorable wedding. The restaurant manager used to let the bridal party use her office to get changed if they needed. At this one wedding, she went into her office (the door was 1/4 open) and discovered the maid of honor with the bridegroom in a manner inconsistent with his just having been married to someone else. The manager quickly left, closing the door, then asked her assistant to take over managing the wedding, as she said she would have found it impossible to keep a straight face when dealing with the bride's family (who had arranged everything and typically paid at the end of the night).

Wow...it's this point of view that really boggles my mind, but you're certainly not the only woman in the world who feels this way, which is unfortunate. It's not all about the bride, it's about the bride AND groom, and a wedding itself is 1 day to celebrate the union of two people becoming one. While I understand that people want to remember the day and have good memories of it forever, I can't imagine being angry at my husband because of 1 days. A marriage is very different from a wedding. A marriage will last your whole life, a wedding lasts one day. If you really insist on a more elaborate wedding, I'd say since it's all about you anyway, you should come up with the cost yourself. :P

If my fiance insisted on a $15,000 wedding I'd suggest we spend it on a Honda Civic and do the drive thru.

Thanks for the upvote, lol! :) Actually I find the idea of a small and casual wedding to be much better than a high-pressure, big event. Me and Victor are very casual and laid-back people, and we're also both pretty shy so we prefer smaller gatherings over big, big parties. An intimate wedding with close family, everyone we invite being casual and just wearing what's comfortable for them, is much more appealing for us. :) And of course going home afterwards to relax and cuddle will be the perfect close of the day! :D

Oh, and by the way we are BOTH taking each others' last names. Very progressive.

Not to burst your bubble but check your state rules about this. I know a man tried that, taking the wife's name and he was denied the name change by USCIS.

i did want a very simple wedding (just to be memorable)...but its like he is into like a drive thru...i think simple and drive thru wedding has alot of difference, isn't it?

Unless he SAID drive-thru, you're the one who's taking his views that way... so the only answer is to talk to him about what HE expects, have him hear what YOU expect and compromise. Money IS a big issue. You're with your loved one,... what else really matters? Do you really want him to be stressing about paying for the wedding, AND supporting you and himself until you're able to work and actually able to get a job? Not to mention your family won't be able to be there on such short notice.. I would prefer to keep the "nice" wedding for my family.

I agree with the idea of doing just a legal court house wedding until you're able to pay for he wedding you want. It takes the stress of him and gives you plenty of time to plan. The legal wedding CAN still be nice. It would be relatively stress free. You could spend the money on a nice little getaway/honeymoon together. So many things you could spend the money on advancing and enjoying your life together.

Drive-thru CAN be nice... I wish we'd done that and saved the money for a holiday back to Australia for him to meet my parents. We've been married almost 2 years now and he still hasn't met my mother or father or brother in person.
