I posted this in the Latin America / Colombia forum but haven't had any responses

Hello all, my fiance is preparing to ship me her signed documents. She has my name, address, city, state and zip code.

She is also asking for my home phone # (i never use it which is why she doesn't have it in her cell) and she asked for my country code. I assume she's talking about the country code for calling, which is the # 1.

I'm just a little confused....does she need to put this info on the package? It's no big deal...I guess I just never thought about how she would address packages to me...I'm always the one sending her stuff, usually not the other way around. I assume she is going to be shipping through DHL or Fed Ex.

Also, any idea how much it will cost to ship a few papers? Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks!

ummmm i am not sure about colombia, but i just sent a package to my mother in law in mexico today, just put her name, her address, and state, which is state of mexico, i have never had problems with the stuff getting there, in fact, mailing it ( i mailed 3 pages of pictures) cost me 2.22, it will probably be a little more expensive since it is going a bit further than mexico, but not by much, you can't get a verification of it arriving, but you can get it 'certified' i think thats what its called, and you can go online and check when it arrives, or where it is, as for putting your telephone number and such on there,..... i dont know why she would do that/need to, but maybe its a colonbian thing?

The name and phone number info is needed for the shipper to contact you and also for customs. When I was in Cali, Colombia I sent a check to be deposited to my bank account in the US via Fed Ex. The cost was about 70,000 Colombian Pesos or roughly $35.

the last two posts are exactly correct, its pretty typical in colombia to use a phone number as its often hard to find a location so for them its common practice and you shouldnt be concerned about it. also the country code for the usa is 001 not just 1. if you use just the single digit they wont ever get through to you if they have a issue. good luck.
