Don't make plans until VISA is in your hands!!

Recently I've seen a number of posts with issues regarding not getting the visa in time for flight schedules or other plans that have been made. I just want to say that on this forum there are many many many posts reminding people to NEVER purchase tickets or confirm plans until YOU HAVE YOUR VISA IN YOUR HANDS!!!!

There are many things that can happen.... you can be approved but the visa still may take a few days to get to your doorstep,

I've seen several issues recently:

  • Putting in job resignation notices before the interview then doesn't have a job during the wait for the visa
  • making wedding plans and the visa isn't issued before that date making all the plans go out the window (at least have a temporary plan not concrete)
  • scheduling appointments and flights before visa is issued and then not being able to use those tickets because you have no visa to travel and either losing all that money or having to pay a fee to reschedule the flights/appointments

Please please... remember that you do not know for sure anything until you get to interview... if they give you the visa the same day... thats' the BEST and most wonderful thing... but until you have your visa in your hand... PLEASE DO NOT purchase plane tickets, put in your resignations, or make permanent changes to your life .... until that moment that visa has touched your hands....

WIshing all of you a swift journey thru immigration and a fast receipt of all your VISAS...

03/07/2013 Case returned to USCIS waiting for NOIR/reaffirmation

04/18/2013 USCIS received case for review

08/19/2013 Received NOIR to respond by 9/18/2013

9/9/2013 Responded to NOIR/USCIS received documents awaiting response

9/20/2013 USCIS reaffirmed sent to embassy

1/04/14 Case opened for review

8/31/15 Interview- no questions visa approved on the spot

9/8/15 visa status issued

9/10/15 visa received

9/19/15 POE Charlotte

It may cost a little more booking flight on short notice . But much less stress

well i haven't purchased ticket, but i sold my car before interview as i thought i will be approved and will get visa, i should have waited, :whistle: any update?

LOL!!! Well look at it this way...by selling ur car u have funds to purchase a short notice ticket ;)

We called dos today n the ONLYYYY lady that ever tells me ur pending and i cant discuss nything else with u answered...expected the same statement again but this time she said its pending i said is ther any updates at all? She said yeah i can see they r working on it...so i took that said thnx n hung up...so thats all my update...blahhhhh :(

This is so hard seriously, My wife called day before yesterday, as per DOS right now we are waiting from Consulate end to complete the case, so don’t know how long it will take more, it is seriously black hole

However, what if you are dealing with New Delhi, a consulate where they oftentimes request detailed information about your wedding plans? (Applicable to K-1)

I was thinking about attaching things like my wedding dress receipt which would show intentions of marrying without the gamble of making actual reservations.

I am the petitioner.

I was thinking about attaching things like my wedding dress receipt which would show intentions of marrying without the gamble of making actual reservations.

that's simple....You can always make the wedding plans but be sure to sign the contracts with the deposits of money with the wording the dates could changee and your money will go towards whichever date you need....etc... do not put anything into solid plans...pencil it in as they say so you can erase that date and move it...

i know if you explained to them whats' happening then they will understand and honor your contract if you need to change the date....
