Quotes from pro-Palestinian articles that criticize the shutting down of a Gaza children's art exhibit are "biased," "inflammatory" and "propaganda."

However, quotes from the "Global News Service of the Jewish People" that justify shutting down the Gaza children's art exhibit are "balanced."

"rules for ot" moved from p&r to site discussion.

Good luck, sis. This is what happened to my thread, now closed without an admin response, when I questioned the moderation double standard applied between Palestinian posters and the "Israel-can-do-no-wrong" crowd on P&R.

It is a matter of reading the content.

If the article contains 'colouring' with words meant to create an emotional response - then look at what type of response is being triggered. If it meant to generate fear, anger, hostility, aggression or any sort of a negative response, then look towards the motive for posting such a media piece.

If there is a statement of fact without colour in either a pro or anti position and no one is being emotionally pulled one way or another but allowed to read bare facts and draw their own conclusions, then that statement is balanced. The article I quoted did not justify closing down the exhibit; It stated the exhibit was closed as a result of community protests - it made no value judgment one way or another.

You're not able to read very well.

I didn't expect you to agree with my decision.

Hell, I'm still waiting for you to come up with a single solitary quote from my entire history at VJ to back up your horsesh!t about me in PM....

I'll wait to see if every thread is held to the same standard. When I requested a change to a less inflammatory title for the P&R thread "Religion of peace, turns ugly at amusement park in NY", it was ignored.

When I was personally attacked for my views, my religion and my lack of interest in repeatedly answering the same leading questions on a very inflammatory thread for hours after I stopped posting, the attacker was allowed to keep posting, but I was suspended for two days.

Balance is definitely going off the rails on P&R and it's not just about what articles are posted. It's also too obvious to ignore or remain silent about.

MEMRI clips are good to go, though !

I personally think Sof and Wife add the 'other side of the story' to Israeli/Palestinian threads. P&R can get rough, often silly, but I thought that was why it was separated from OT?

As to the OP which got locked I think it was appropriate for discussion there and assuming what Kathryn said in her locking post, that the art was therapy, it explains my take on the pictures. They didn't appear naturally spontaneous.

Regardless I think Sof and Wife take a ton of guff but both seem strong and willing to deal with it. Not sure I have ever seen either deserve a ban IMHO.

Mod-ing ain't easy I'm sure though.

I like that we can get the other sides view since we get the Israel view always. They do hang tough. Hate to always just see Israels side and take on things.

I thought the OP was a good read but it was degenerating as usual. It would have been nice to see the article that Kathyrn posted showing there was other pics and that it would have been nice to be able to comment on that article in relation to the rest but after she posted it she then locked it. Probably would have meant nothing and degenerated into a worse state.

Modding ain't easy. I've been a mod for 10 years on 3 other sites larger than this one, including one where we discuss topics dealing with interfaith religion and the Arab-Israel conflict. When I put on my mod hat, my personal feelings take a distinct back seat to my responsibility as a mod.

If I'd pulled a stunt like Kathryn did on the thread that's the topic here, I'd lose quite a bit of credibility with my audience and I'd hear from the admins. Unseasoned moderation allowing for personal prejudices and personal preferences undermines the site and should be discouraged.

There will be many more threads where we can have our fun and beat down each other.kicking.gif
