Except with the TSA its actually not optional once you enter security. If you refuse and turn around and try to leave you can be arrested.

Yes either one can be arrested or refused entry in the secure zone.

Now days DL not only shows you are authrorized to operate vehicle, but also you are legally present in the country....:)

If a USC is pulled over one cannot just say I am USC and not going to show you any form of identification...:)

Now days if they issue a DL to someone who is in country for short time, they give them vertical DL and on top it is printed in Big Red Bold Letter Temp Visitor...:) also DL has the date when visitor status expires apart from DLs expiry date..:)

More and more state are now asking for voters to show some form of ID to prove they are eligible to vote, can't just walk up and say I m USC and cast a vote.

Under Hibel providing name and address is identifying yourself as I've mentioned.

With voting you are voluntarily entering a place where ID is required.

Also as we've stated getting pulled over requires you to show your DL so you can operate the vehicle. :)

If a USC is pulled over they have to show their DL but their USC passengers do not :)

Now your DL works in 2 parts as I was saying

1. you are allowed to operate a vehicle.

2. Your immigration status is on the card too (which was not the case earlier)

Passenger might be asked for ID too.... he though (s)he might not be driving. :)

Voting it is not voluntary in some states you are required to show an ID. (Not all the states have it yet)

The DL/ID cards look no different depending on your immigration status, at least in California. There is no way to determine a person's legal status just by looking at the card.

2. Is false. Many states do not show status on the cards.

Your passengers may be asked to identify themselves but they may do so verbally.

Voting is not voluntary? You mean, if I don't vote the Feds come and get me?

I guess you have not seen the new one, for the temp visitor (mean one has to have visa for aleast more then 6 months) they give them vertical DL with "Temp visitor" printed on top in Bold Red letters and also they print what date the status expires in red letters.

2. More and more states are doing it, if you look at ppl doing AOS form K1 you will see they can't get DL anymore.

I remember back in 99 even anyone on B1 was able to get a DL, they were not checking anything other than your identification.

Voting is voluntary, Feds don't come and get you - you can show up on your will.

Does it mean you can vote, more and more states are making it mandatory to show and identification, even if you show up on your freewill. :)

Check out K1 form, ppl who are doing AOS have to wait until they get GC DMV would not issue them DL if they dont have status or awaiting a status.

Yes TX and AZ are much stricter and gradually it will come to all states.... don't worry as none of the states want illegal immigrants.

30 states you are required to show some or other form of ID http://www.ncsl.org/default.aspx?tabid=16602 to cast vote.

One cannot just walk up and say one is USC and cast vote..... sorry....:(

Right so its not nationwide, I'm pretty sure California has not adopted it (part of the RealID system I suspect)

Because voting is voluntary, IE you are entering into the controlled space of your own free will just like an airport, they can require ID. In the US you are not required by law to carry ID with you everywhere you go in the public domain.

Public domain is not wht we are talking.

We were talking about right to cast the vote, it is not about entering the secured zone. It is about proving your are USC when we talk about casting vote.

Maryland, New Mexico, California etc.

I think there are only 3 states, Washington, Utah and one more not on top my mind don't check for the immigration status of applicant.

California does check the status prior to issuing a DL/ID card. K-1 are not entitled to a such a card, because they have yet to adjust to an immigrant status, and their status expires after less than six months. However, once you receive an EAD, you can get either or, or both. The card issued will only be valid up to the period the legal presence document is valid.
