Do you want me to use another link showing the Litani River or what cities in Lebanon were bombed by the Israeli air force? You can post all the links you want, it's a fact the IDF marched to the Litani River in a matter of hours and it's a fact the Israeli air force bombed any target in Lebanon they chose to bomb.

The IDF didn't march anywhere but a few miles across the border. Your map shows air strikes, not ground troop battles.

The Israeli Air Force certainly laid waste to Lebanon, bombed the ####### out of its infrastructure and slaughtered more than a thousand civilians - about a third of them children - this is not in dispute. But that isn't "winning a war." The success of a military campaign is determined by whether it achieved its goals. And the IDF did not, as every military and government official in Israel already knows and most have stated on record.

But you know what ? Go ahead and console yourself with your maps. Don't listen to Israel's own government or its own military leaders when they say it was not only a defeat for Israel, but a catastrophe.

On the 1948 War, how do we determine who started it? The UN supported a partition plan. Jewish leaders supported it. Arab leaders did not and are even on record apparently of stating that the UN has no authority over the area (The irony of this caught my eye).

Then as the mandate began to expire effectively street brawls, murders, bombings began from both groups. Even European places were attacked where they had voted for the partition. It was not a clean and black/white war. It was a messy civil war of two parties trying to fill the power vacuum of the Empire. Most historians date the beginning of the war the day after the UN vote.

I always saw the Lebanon War as a proxy US/Iran war. Israel made a number of strategic and tactical errors and may have been fielding too many outdated Merkavas (most of the tanks lost in the war were older models)

That was hideously ignorant.

#1. The state of Israel is not "The Jews," and it does not officially represent "The Jews"

#2. Israel's illegal settlers do not represent "The Jews" either, although they have an inordinate amount of influence over Israeli government policy

#3. Not all Jewish people live in Israel (not even half of the world's Jewish population lives there)

#4. Not all Jewish people support Israel or its behavior - most of them didn't in the early days of Zionism, and more and more of them are not supporting it now

#5. Many Jewish people (both in Israel and outside) actively support the Palestinians in their struggle for justice and strongly support their right to self-determination NOW under a two-state model, based on the 1967 armistice lines and including East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital

#6. More and more Jewish people are supporting a single, secular state with equal rights for all people who live in historic Palestine :o

Keep living in your fantasy land. Israel in the minds of Jews is Jewish. From George Soros, to Abromovitch to Daniel Snyder all support Israel and a single Jerusalem as it's capital. Even Meyer Lansky supported Israel financially and with weapons and he was a gangster. If it's one thing that brings all Jews together as one people it's Israel and Jerusalem as it's capital.

It's in the back of almost every Jews head from the day they first learned to read the Torah. You really should learn up on Jews before you start thinking they have a large liberal following. Your talking about a people that have been used as target practice for century's yet they keep coming back. These aren't your typical wing nut people wearing bandanna's and shooting AK 47's up in the air only to have the bullets falling on the ground and killing bystanders. This is a people that's populated with professionals all over the world. Where Arabs tend to react from emotion due to religion, Jews are calculated. It's not even a fair fight comparing the two peoples.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Even positive stereotypes are stereotypes, Kip. It's not nearly that black and white. Jews are like everyone else, they aren't monolithic, not even about Israel. Stereotypes about Arabs are silly, too.

I take it you didn't read the report. Because it is not "my" analysis, but that of the U.S. Army.

Hezbollah didn't pose an existential threat. The war wasn't popular at home and Israel's main priority was to avoid casualties at all costs.

Believe they'd step up their game if the country's survival was at stake.

Maybe. I wonder how many would actually stay and fight, and how many would get out while the getting is good. I wonder how many of the old guard, the ones that are still alive, are fit to fight.

Are you for real? I don't mean to be a ####### head with this post...but it's like you just read up on the mid east for the first time or something with that post.

How many Israeli's would run? It's the Arabs that fall apart every time they feel pressure on them. They aren't what you call a fighting people by any means. It's not the IDF who hides in populated schools firing rockets. That has to be about the biggest chicken sh*t thing yet.

Report shows IDF desertion rate up 30 percent in 2001

Israeli army desertions rise

Rate of Ethiopians joining IDF higher than average

The rate of Ethiopian Israelis joining the Israel Defense Forces is higher than that of the general population, the Knesset Committee for Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs was told Monday. The committee was holding an emergency hearing to discuss the publication of recent data showing that a disproportionately high number of Ethiopian soldiers also wind up in army prison. According to IDF statistics presented to the committee, which is chaired by MK Prof. Michael Nudelman (Kadima), 90 percent of Ethiopian males join the army, with 30% becoming part of fighter units. This at a time when the participation of the general population in the army has been plummeting. According to figures released in August, 25% of 18 year-old males avoided the draft. However, the committee was also told that 20% of the Ethiopian soldiers end up deserting the army at some point in order to assist their families, many of whom are faced with severe economic difficulties.
