"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

Just trying to figure this out.

One man, multiple women: Legal under Islamic law. (maybe not feasible for many anymore but legal nonetheless)

One woman, multiple men: Illegal under Islamic law.

Haven't quite figured out how this creation thing plays into this inequality (unless Allah created multiple women for the man which I'm not sure the "book" really gives that).

Anyhow, run the advantages of Islamic law for a healthy marriage by me one more time...

I married a muslim man and we discussed this in depth when he asked me to marry him. So here is what I have read and understood so anyone forgive me if I am wrong.

Yes under Islamic law a man can have more than one wife. This was created in the beginning of Islam so that during the many wars widows and there children would be married to another man and the family unit would stay intact.

Now days almost all Islamic marriages are like the ones in other parts of the world. One spouse and you sign a Nikkah contract with the terms of divorce so that you can not just say I divorce you without good grounds. Divorce or death of first spouse are grounds for another marriage just like in any other society. Now in Islamic countries they do have more than one wife. Plus, the first wife is supposed to grant the permission for an second wife.

I think that in Islamic marriages as well as other marriages you have to sit and discuss how you feel in advance of the marriage. You cannot think the marriage is like Prince Charming kisses the Sleeping Princess and that life is perfect. Just my opinion. And I am not sure exactly what the OP was asking if it was the Islamic part of divorce in the USA or if it was about his green card being effected by the problems with the marriage possibly going into divorce.

Everything I respond to is from personal knowledge, research or experience and I am in no means a lawyer or do I claim to be one. Everyone should read, research and be responsible for your own journey.

Allah created Man and then created woman as companion. The house, having babies etc is the womans domain. Physically we are weaker, menatally we are stronger :P

Cindi,

Put the Kool-Aid down and come out of your cave with your hands on your head. Thank you.

I love my cave (L):P xoxox

What if you're smart like me and make no promises and assume no responsibilities?

Then, life can be about titties and beer.

I think that people staying together out of fear is sickening... I find religious doctrines ridiculous... the Quran says that it is OK for a man to beat his wife... in fact I can quote the verse and book if you want me to... the Bible, Vedas, Geeta, so on and so forth all carry verses that I find objectionable. All religions are similar in as much as they preach hatred and intolerance and all religions are similar in as much as it hands control over a household firmly in the man's hands. I cannot view that as ok at all. To my mind a couple should want to work towards keeping their marriage intact. The very notion of executing someone (read woman) is completely unacceptable.

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

Conditional Green Card dated 24th October 2007

In fact, religion should be outlawed.

Religion should be declared subversive and immoral and all religious people should be forced into re-education camps. Those who resist must be executed to maintain order and morality.

Not a cure, but a less societal lassefaire approach to these things should be promoted

Thats the point, there really is no law against polygamy if people are running off having girlfriends/boyfirends affairs and kids with other women/men. Step outside the box ET
