Yes it ranks up there as a major atrocity, think about it..

How would you like it or do if husband or wife brought someone else into your home , bed and marriage.. the chaos it would create.Go to others and people say" oh well '"####### happens"" sorry for your luck".. would not be so easy to get over. Im almost in agreement with desert fox here. Seeing that is about the only option allowed.

Well, it's tough sh!t for sure. But one can live a normal life after going through something like that. That benefit is not available to those raped and/or murdered. Think about that! ;)

Out of curiosity, what is the penalty for unfaithfulness under islamic law? Because, in a way, it is penalized here too, in that I'm pretty sure you are more likely to get favorable divorce terms if you are the victim of such a situation.

As for holding someone directly accountable to the state for this... I personally disagree. Yes, if my wife cheated on me, it would hurt a lot- I would be devastated. I might or might not try to work it out, but I guarantee that I would not want to call the cops! Who knows one another better than husband and wife? This is a personal matter, and should be settled between them. If they decide to dissolve the union as a result, then they must engage with the state, as far as the marriage is a government institution.

Going from woman to another woman, man to another man is multiple polygamy. and its personal choice?? look all the single parent housholds , kids in poverty(what is the percent now), being left alone while parent has to work et al. maybe government(law) should get more involved.

Wow. Thanks for the info (and perspective). Still though, even if my wife were to cheat on me, I can't imagine that I'd want to see her whipped or executed (at least not after I had a day to think about it).

Islamic law would be whipping and or death

For a cheating husband? Really?

Going from woman to another woman, man to another man is multiple polygamy.

Islamic law ...

First of all: No, cheating is not polygamy. Polygamy means that one is married to more than one person at the time. Our (clearly non-islamic) laws do address that issue and make it illegal.

Islamic law, on the other hand, doesn't forbid polygamy outright, does it?

Any examples where a cheating husband was stoned? There are plenty of examples for cheating wives. Apparently the punishing of the men is not quite so prominent which is why it must have escaped my memory.

So, then, if a man has more than one wife (clearly an option in some places under Islamic law), how is that not cheating and why does that guy not get whipped or killed. Furthermore, why can't a woman have a couple husbands?

I wasn't attacking you, rather the notion that cheating and murder are anywhere near equal.

I WOULD be devastated by cheating. I would not work it out. I would divorce immediately. That's why I ended my previous marriage. It was unforgivable. But I'm sure glad she didn't murder me ... I couldn't get over that and move on with my life.

If you are having woman call you visit you at your home, intruding on your married life then it is like having another wife (someone you are essentially caring for, is this not a wife??) so yah it is polygamy, if she gets pregnant then you have more responsibility. Islam does not forbid what you call outright polygamy, but wife number one, family, is asked and involved, and it is sure all peoples ok with situation and the other wife has her own place away from the first wife's home..He has to be able to care for both housholds. Cheating and love affairs no one has choice or say, its spirals to disaster.

All in all more than one wife in todays Islamic world is not needed or is it feasable..Maybe in Usa they should have legal polygamy help take care of the women and children in our society

Muder is against the law, rape is against the law.. the worst kind of crime betrayal is not, that is what im saying..

Yes, that is good thinking ET.. however cheating seems a whole lot acceptable and not such a big deal. (norm)

When all it does is cause heartache, discord and dispair..

was replying to this quote, and to the op who had an Islamic marriage,

"It's also not uncommon for someone to cheat when they are apart for a long time. I live in a town with 3 military bases in or close to it and I can tell you that normal couples who are both USCs cheat even when the man is off at war somewhere!"

betrayal is worse than rape and murder?????

Though I do not want to be betrayed, I would certainly rather be betrayed than raped.
