What is going on at the USCIS

OK, I know that the people on VJ only represent a small number of actual visa applicants that are recieved by the USCIS daily, way less then 1% i believe. But does anyone know if any rumours about why the USCIS seems to have ground to a hal over the past month. I noticed that the April petitioners were being done quickly (well seemingly quickly - I am sure those that were waiting would disagree). And the May applicants seemed to be processing quickly. But then it seemed that from Igor's stats that there were a lot of RFE's in May and since then the whole process is going very slowly. I am waiting patiently, and I know I have to wait my turn like everyone else. And like everyone else we all want it to be done more quickly. But I just want to know if anyone knows why it has slowed down so much

Thanks

Ray

The adjudicators are perhaps concentrating their efforts on other petition types. As tough as it is, you'll probably have a few more months to wait. Just be thankful that this might be the toughest part of your visa journey.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

That is definitely a possibility as they seem to have a habit of doing that. It frustrates people working there also.

If you are going to try to track this like a Fedex package you are going to be VERY frustrated as it is not designed to work that way. My suggestion? Believe me dude, this visa stuff is the small stuff, the easy part. Do you and your fiance(e) a favor and spend your time preparing for a very major change in life that is going to happen much sooner than you imagine

Either that or wrap your head in duct tape, because if you keep this up your head is going to explode and you will want to keep the pieces.

Best reply ever, lol.

I noticed a slowdown at CSC a few weeks ago, just around the original estimated time for my NOA2. :(

It could be a bunch of things. Employees could be going to training. They may have switched to different petition types as their focus (especially since CSC was much faster on K1s than the other two centers). They may be undergoing office renovations for all I know. I suppose it's also possible there were layoffs, but I hope that's not the case.

So, we wait. I try not to think about it, but when I do, I get pissed off. I pay tens of thousands in taxes every year, my payment for the application was cashed immediately, I obey the laws (okay, speeding, maybe not so much) and I wait and wait. And what I am waiting for is some functionary at an embassy to decide my fate. Thousands of Mexicans have been crossing the border illegally during this time, nobody does a damned thing about it. News reports that some terrorists might be in the country (who presumably got visas). But we just dutifully wait.

I understand your point Alla, but I don't agree with you. If we could be together, this would be easier. Any challenge is easier if you are together, not separated by thousands of miles and a faceless, nameless, unaccountable bureacracy.
