does anyone here know anything about getting an "IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number" ?

here is the link

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw7.pdf

i heard something about this the other day on the radio

& i see one of the boxes you can check is

"spouse of a U.S. citizen/resident alien"

does anyone know anything about this because it's all new to me. I know my wife can get a SS# once she has been here a couple of weeks however for her credential accreditation (she is a nurse) from the Philippines they are going to want a # for her (normally a SS#) & due to the fact that the timing mite be off her credential review paperwork mite be sent back & then we would have to start it all over again.(another 6 months wait) I'm not trying to break any laws just figure out how i can make the state nursing board, immigration, & the Philippine nursing board all happy all at the same time. thanks for any input piglett

Don't know all about the state requirements there... But, let me tell you the process to get her license

may not be as easy as you are thinking.

I live in Texas (one of the easiest - no English requirement, and no CGFNS).

But,,,

We had still had hoops to jump through.

Transcript evaluation, SSN, Texas Application for license. And,, we were told about a refresher

course requirement for foreign trained nurses 120 hours of Classroom plus 120 hours of Clinical.

After she did the Classroom portion online,,, We called to confirm requirements for the Clinical

Portion,,, We were told,,, Oh that is an old requirement.

Anyway,,,

The NCLEX ended up being the real tough one for her...

1. She had graduated 4 years prior.

2. She had trouble with the Meds and Prioritization. (The Philippine Colleges do not teach so much

about our expensive drug regiments) In addition, our nurses have much more responsibilities then

the nurses do in the Philippines.

After a near passing score in the USA... We decided to have her attended a course in the Philippines

to bridge the knowledge gap. Figured it would be faster with a higher degree of certainty, and the

additional cost would be neutral with her obtaining employment quicker.

Thoughts here being, The USA courses are generally for US trained Nurses. The Philippine NCLEX courses

are designed specifically to bridge the gap between the Philippine Nursing Education and the NCLEX test.

After the first 6 weeks of a 12 week course, we decided to attempt the NCLEX since she was eligble

to retake the test. She passed the NCLEX in Manila (End of March this year), had her Texas license

(Mid April) and had her first job offer 2 weeks after that.

ps... You and/or your wife can PM to this account if there is any questions.

Regards,

Doug

we have already started CGFNS because that is what new hampshire requires.

the thing is once the results are in the clock starts ticking & after (i think 90 days)

if she doesn't have her SS# (like she is still in PI) we have to start the whole CGFNS all over again

so if i could give them the ITIN# maybe that would stop them from throwing the results of the CGFNS in the trash.

i'm just trying to cover my @ss

thanks

For the SSN, did she check off on the DS-230 to be assigned one? If she did and it works, she should have an SSN and card within three weeks of arriving.

the problem is if the CGFNS sends their results to the state nursing board the nursing board then wants a SS#

if my wife still isn't here then i can't provide them with a SS# & if that is the case then the nursing board will throw everything from the CGFNS in the trash & then we have to start all over again which takes 6 months : (

thanks

Might want to check out the Nurse Multistate Compact. She might be able to get licensed in Texas (Much Easier Path)...

And then transfer her license to New Hampshire. They are both in the compact.

Just a thought.

Doug
