Math and stats majors end up in that career. Its a position in the insurance industry, calculate risks and premiums and things like that. Very statistical.

 oh hell no I am too stupid to do maths ...:lol::lol:

That's my job! :)

Well, I'm not credentialed yet, but am on the track. Better get back to studying for my actuarial exams!

BTW, the average salary seems a bit low compared to what I've seen on industry salary surveys....

Congrats Jenn!

This survey is national so it won't account for the hyper-salaries of places like the NYC metro area.

Childcare worker doesn't even make the list. It's sad when the school custodian is making more $ than you are and your training the future.

I think I will become a custodian or food service worker.

7-3-06 GREEN CARD ARRIVES IN MAIL!!!! Done for two years!!!!!!

I am here to help, even if it's just to offer my shoulder to cry or vent on... We are all in this together.!

My answers are based on personal experience, not fact.

We are on this rollercoaster ride together holding on for dear life.

Mine is on the list of 166.

I think the (relatively) low salary listed is because so many people think anyone can do it ... so a lot of people who aren't very good do it and don't make much money, or a lot of people also do it as a side job or only part-time ... the average I've heard for people who work very hard and keep up on their continuing education and go to conferences and stuff, is nearly double what the list says.

I'm not sure what number, but I'm on there... My salary (animator) is considerably higher than the national average but the cost of living here in the OC is a killer. Jinky's profession is number 43 and even if she can't make through the hurdles of getting board certified once she in this country, she could make a decent salary as a dental hygienist.

...and just for the record - just because my address is in Laguna Beach doesn't mean diddly squat. I'm a single father raising two teenagers in a 2 bedroom apartment that's running me at $1,600 a month (which is actually one of the cheaper rents). I've been in this godforsaken apt. now for 3 years and then when Jinky arrives, we're going to have to squeeze in until we can find a bigger place.

Maybe a bit, but once you're fully credentialed you should start making more. Plus, actuaries report high levels of job satisfaction and it's supposed to be a very safe career option, i.e. it's one of the only careers that seems to be nearly recession-proof.

Apparantly digging ditches doesn't have the appeal that it once had.

Don't laugh the average salary for a tradesman with a few years experience in Australia is $60.3K USD

Have you seen the price of colleges in the US? :crying:

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
