Police Certificate not good enough?!

So my husband and I mailed all of his forms to the NVC. We have been married and living together in Canada for two years. I came back to the US back in May to find a job and prepare for his arrival.

He had gone down to the local police station to get his certificate, which stated "the following states that our research shown no criminal record to anyone with that name, born on the said day, in Canada". Today, I had gotten a letter from the NVC that says "10 - Canada Police Certificate - The Police Certificate that you have submitted does not fulfill the necessary requirements."

I called the NVC to find out what was up with that, and the woman that I talked to could not understand why this was rejected. She told me that she'd have to talk to her supervisor and that I'd have to call back in a few weeks. So this is going to set things back by AT LEAST another month. It's getting harder and harder being apart every day.

I really don't understand what is wrong with the police certificate. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Did he have it down at his local RCMP or an RCMP "approved" office?

Do you know if it says that the National Criminal Records Repository was searched?

He had it done at his local police station since the instructions stated that he could have it done there.

I'm not sure about the NCRR, he asked them for a Canada Wide Criminal Search for immigration purposes when he applied, and that is what was given to him.

I just wondered about the NCRR because I specifically remember that from the instructions that I read, somewhere.

My husband just got his back today, it's a yellow piece of paper that says "Canadian Police Certificate for employment, visa applicants, foreign travel/work permits," but I believe there are a couple different acceptable forms.

I hope you get it sorted out soon!

My police certificate was completed by the local RCMP station and they used this form http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/form/3584-eng.pdf to prepare it. Mine was accepted.

Hope this helps and good luck! :)

Just make sure it was a national search, and double check with the police office that it is what they need for a US immigrant visa. I am from Lethbridge, AB, and I had it done at my local office. The list of all of the searches preformed were on the back of the certificate, so I called the police office to make sure that I had the correct searches (the front said a regional search, but the back said national search). When I sent it electronically to the NVC, I made sure to scan the back as well. I had no problems with the NVC accepting it, but I was almost refused at my interview because of it! Good thing I had previously called, and I showed the lady doing my interview the back of the certificate, where the list of searches preformed was. So check the back and call the local police station!

I haven't seen that saying on the back of my wife's certificate. But I'm pretty positive that there was something on front about search in national database or like this. I'll look into (I'm still in the queue for NVC's case #) and if I'm wrong, I'll contact my wife in Toronto ASAP.

Thanks for the info !

This is what it says on my wife's PCC from Toronto (she was applying on-line):

"Please be advised that a search of the National Criminal Records repository maintained by the RCMP did not identify any records for a person with the name(s) and date of birth as indicated.

Positive identification that a criminal record may or may not exist at the National Criminal Records repository can only be confirmed by fingerprint comparison".

Would it be accepted by NVC?

I'm kinda confused with that 2nd statement: "Positive identification that a criminal record may or may not exist at the National Criminal Records repository can only be confirmed by fingerprint comparison".

It was said on VJ that fingerprinting PCC is not required by NVC, in addition, it may take months to obtain PCC with fingerprinting. That's why I'm concerned with that second sentence.

Any advise?

My Police certificate also said that same phrase "Positive identification that a criminal record may or may not exist at the National Criminal Records repository can only be confirmed by fingerprint comparison" and was accepted just fine. :)
