I think the process is easier or harder already depending on the circumstances of your relationship.

For us it was really a piece of cake, because we had lived together abroad for an extensive period of time, spent many vacations together throughout the time, visited the US together several times, both our families had met and knew each other, etc. With documentation supporting all this, all interviews were easy and straightforward. Had we only met once 3 days before submitting the forms, I think it would have been a whole different story.

Plus, quite frankly it's not very classy to wish more stringent rules for the others, after passing with the easier ones.

what a complete load of bullshit!!!! my fiance can easily afford to support me even though she doesnt quite earn enough to meet the requirements because she has no debt and very little outgoings so we have to have a cosponsor. are you saying that we dont deserve happiness because she earns 1000 dollars less than the 125% poverty level??? are you saying that poor people dont deserve to be happy??

Poor/rich/middle class. Everyone deserves happiness. But I do hope you intend to work and not live off your wife.

I think it should be harder to adopt a puppy. LOL. Look at all the ''cute little puppy's'' that grow up and get thrown back to the animal shelter. :P

I am just saying it doesn't seem to me that marriage is where a person's mind should be if they are barely able to survive financially. Just my own personal value system. Doesn't mean you have to agree with me. Lots of people are married who can't afford it. Lots of people with oodles of kids who can't afford them either.

ive worked everyday of my life so far and that wont change once i get to america. i would rather do a crappy job for 5 dollars an hour than sit at home... which is probably why i dont have a lot of money because there have been times when i would of been better of on benefits in the UK than i would have working :)

we have allready done the k1 etc etc.we are now removing conditions.i for one would like to see this whole process more stringent than it already is.we have our circle of friends whom are all k1 holders and ive closely watched all of them and there marriages.first,i would like to see more up front than just meeting 1 time within 2 years.second, this 90 day to marry must be extended to at least double (180 days)third,i believe that the income levels of pationers should be much higher than 125% of poverty level.we all have to admit the process is already long.uscis can only do so much when it comes to paperwork and background checks.but in all reality it is up to the petioner and the k1 visa holder to make a marriage that will last a lifetime.im gonna stick my neck out here and say i personally believe that only 40% of these marriages last any length of time.dont get me wrong i am happily married to a wonderful women and weve been together now a full 2 years.but looking back it sure was very tough.any comments welcome?

You sound like a selfish person. You got what you want, so screw everyone else. In this world nothing is guaranteed...today you are inlove and tomarrow could be a different thing for different reasons. Divorce is also high for people with money than it is for people with less money.

My friend, "the race is not for the swift, but for those who endure to the end."

Peace.

the problem with the poverty level thing is that it doesnt take anything in to consideration apart from earnings and assets and we will survive comfortably until i find work because my fiance has hardly any outgoings at all... my cosponsor will not and will never support me in any way... i will do that myself. my cosponsor is there just to satisfy immigration. now bringing kids in to the world when you cant afford them is a different matter and not something i would do :)

I don't get the hate against co-sponsors. I had three lined up, as a 'just in case' scenario. My cousin, my FIL, a friend of ours. I am not ashamed of it. My husband made $4000 over the poverty guidelines by the time the interview rolled around but we still needed an official co-sponsor as both of us had just graduated and Mr. Sachinky's three years worth of tax returns didn't look so hot as he had been in college. Sure, we could have waited but why? I am not running on someone else's time-line. We did what was best for us and it worked out. We both hold steady, amazing jobs and make WAY more than enough now. I had two job offers within 3 weeks of landing in the US. So there. B-)

This process of legal immigration is long, arduous and I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy. I still remember the pain of being separated, even though it's now almost two years ago. And for the record, I had a very easy case and an interview that lasted three minutes. :)

Want to add something.

I think if anything, waiting through all of this should make the relationship stronger. I think someone mentioned, some ppl here in the us can technically do the same thing, get married right away, and then result in divorce.

Also, in the US there is a trend for people to not get married at all now. So the people who actually do want to get married should be really serious, right?

It's rare to find people who want to get married now... at least the people I've met...

Currently.... they have issued Ice the incorrect GC and we have tried 4 times to fix it. First time they had us send it to the incorrect address. Second time they said we used an expired form, which was the form they gave us. Third time was "oh sorry we lost the last page, can you send it again?." Fourth time is the gov is shut down. Will this ever be corrected in time for Ice to get the permanent GC? Stay tuned to find out. T_T

I am very happy that you have read the Quran and that your husband is Muslim....now ask him if his sister that has never been married would be allowed to travel alone to a different country with out one of his family......

maybe Egyptians are not as strict about their unmarried daughters i don't know as im not Egyptian

but the process is hard enough as it is the only thing i think should be changed is the length of time to marry after the fiance comes to the USA

sara

I am a Muslim and I was allowed to travel to the US 3 times, one of the times I took a couple of training courses too. I spent 5 months here at at time. He came over to Jordan to meet my parents and he is an American Muslim. The only country that requires an escort is to KSA I believe but I can understand the concerns of a girl traveling alone..I guess it depends on the parent's perspective of it.

I think the OP has some mentally retarded inhumane disposition...

So because you're done with the first phase of this process, you think you're done finally right? You're wrong!!

I'd be waiting to hear your story when things gets extremely so difficult and hard for you to get through the conditioning and the citizenship phase..

Next time, always think about other people who are even praying that the meeting in person be removed cos of extra difficulty or hardship it causes due to low income..

You don't want to be selfish? Are u?

Actually thought you were being sarcastic when I read the subject line. So lets split this problem in two. the "Process" should be much simpler. Way too many forms and jumping thru hoops. Also depending on what country your coming from theres too many special trips for this document or that and lots of fun and confusion when an office expects one type of document but the instructions clearly expect another or an employee gives you incorrect instructions. The rocket that launched from NASA today will be in moon orbit in 3- 4 months but it takes me 8 or more to get my fiance here. Meanwhile this country has gotten so lax about illegal immigrants it makes me wonder why bother. I do agree people should spend more time together before filing a k1. As for income requirements if you can afford the current cost of visiting your fiance , all the special trips on your document adventure and paying for all the fees before and after she arrives as well as the plane ticket to get her here you probably can support her. Jim.

Definitely more paperwork should be added to the process!

I thought posting inane one liners that accomplish nothing but to make the poster feel special were restricted to the P&R areas.. Yeah more paperwork.. Every successful company in existence lives by gathering data and constantly refining and improving. That is missing from this process and it can't be improved without it. Every suggestion in this entire thread is completely pointless when we don't know the truth... But hey by all means go back to 4chan or google images or wherever and find another graphic if you think it will help. Thanks!

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect
