Hi,

My question is about I-130, C.20, where they ask you to write your name and address in the native alphabet.

I am a Japanese and my husband is from the U.S., and we are filing this from Japan.

I have changed my last name to his when we got married, so that's my name now (husband's last name)+(my first name).

In Japanse official documents, I use (his last name in Katakana) and (my first name in Kanji).

and Im applying I-130 with this name also (in English),

In this case, should I write my name as (husband's last name/Katakana)+(my first name/Kanji)?

Or I should use my maiden name which is used Kanji as well as my first name...?

thank you very much for reading and appreciate whoever replies this.

Use your current legal name, as seen on identification.

I have seen there this actually has helped others avoid a security check.

There are few Japanese with mixed language names, so you shouldn't get tagged for a security check if you have a rather common maiden name.

I don't know if this had anything to do with it, but one person had a very common name in Chinese, took 3 years to get through security check. Another person changed her Chinese last name to her husband's, had no security check.

Now, it could have been because person A had a Ph. D. and person B did not... But changing and using your married/legal name should not hurt you at all. Use your ID name, and don't change it during the process.
