Canada also cares about curing people unlike the states where the pharma lobbies hold guns to everyone's heads.

To be honest, the only reason I'm moving to the states is because of marriage. I would never, ever do it if not for that. A little pissed I have to leave.

You can always move back one day ;) My wife and I may do so in a few years. It's mainly due to healthcare concerns as we get older here in the US. It's too bad that they are so afraid of that here.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I think our defense dollars are well spent.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

By "afraid of it" don't you mean "can't afford it" here?

We give away plenty... what's another $60B for our boys in the gulf?

"Obama's proposed spending on welfare through 2010 will eclipse Bush's war spending by more than $260 billion." Make it rain.

$60 billion is $60 billion no matter how you slice it and that $60 billion is only the tip of the ice burg. The welfare hand outs are killing this country also, but defense doesn't have a much better track record.

Half a trillion dollars of broken Afghan dreams

For the nearly $450 billion Congress estimates the U.S. alone has spent waging war there, every Afghan man, woman and child could have been handed $15,000. That sum is 10 years' earnings for an average Afghan, according to U.N. estimates.

More than $6 billion in Iraq reconstruction funds lost

The Iraqi and U.S. governments have been unable to account for a substantial chunk of the billions of dollars in reconstruction aid the Bush administration literally airlifted into the country. If the cash proves to have been stolen, the heist could represent "the largest theft of funds in national history," according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.

The Times' description of how the billions of dollars entered the country is a must-read:

Pentagon officials determined that one giant C-130 Hercules cargo plane could carry $2.4 billion in shrink-wrapped bricks of $100 bills. They sent an initial full planeload of cash, followed by 20 other flights to Iraq by May 2004 in a $12-billion haul that U.S. officials believe to be the biggest international cash airlift of all time.

Special inspector general for Iraqi reconstruction Stuart Bowen told the paper the missing $6.6 billion may be "the largest theft of funds in national history."

Iraqi officials say it was the U.S. government's job to keep track of the funds, which were brought in as an emergency measure to keep basic infrastructure going after Saddam Hussein's ouster. House Government Reform Committee investigators found in 2005 evidence of "substantial waste, fraud and abuse in the actual spending and disbursement of the Iraqi funds."

Witnesses testified that millions of dollars were shoved into "gunnysacks" and disbursed to Iraqi contractors on pick-up trucks, with what seemed to be little financial controls or accounting on the part of the U.S. government.

You're kidding, right? You have a badass military and they're doing great things over in the box. Not that you're as much of a golden target as the US, but they'll kill Canucks just as fast as they'll kill the rest of us.

And, sadly, Canadians have been killed in Afghanistan and other places since 9/11 as part of the forces fighting for our freedom and way of life. They are, indeed, heroes.

Slim, what I was trying to say was we don't have people flying planes into our buildings. (Yet?)

We have an amazing military and unbelievable special forces. I was told by an engineer friend who works on military projects that Canada focuses on quality over quantity. A friend of mine who was stationed in Italy (in the USN) during the main Libya conflict period was saying Canadian troops were there training U.S. military. And yeah, I know when it comes down to it, it's Us vs. Them on the battlefield, it doesn't matter where you hail from, only which side you're fighting for.

Canadian fighters were stationed in Alaska last year and covered for us when US fighters were grounded for some flaw. But that's beside the point. What the press doesn't say is that Iraqi gas and oil is already being pumped from Iraq to Europe via Turkey. Nor do you read about the gas line from the Caspian Sea to India via Afghanistan and Pakistan. That line is already 1/3 finished.

These wars aren't intended to fight against terrorist so much as they are to feed gas and oil to the West. US tax dollars fighting the big fight for big oil companies. It's sickening is what it is. Wave the flag and keep the sheep blind.

Yes, interesting how Canada is not having the same level of money problems as many others right now. And they have much cheaper education and healthcare.

We LOVE Canadians. They come here in droves to avoid high taxes and buy stuff we sell in Vermont dropping their good Canadian dollars here and then getting back across before dinner! We fly the Quebec flag on church street as proudly as the American one! After they leave, we throw the money on the bed and have sex on it. Poor Queeny. We are just LOONEY about it!

Due to the heavy dependence of Canadians on our healthcare facilities here, our largest hosptal is generously able to provide FREE healthcare to Vermonters who make less than $8000 per month and we will be the first state to have cheap single payer coverage for everyone. Try THAT without a couple million nearby Canadians to supplement your expenses!

Merci Beaucoup Quebec! Je me souviens!

We also added several levels of parking to the airport in Burlington, we simply cannot accomodate all the Quebec lisence plates avoiding flying out of Trudeau airport due to high taxes. I talked with a Quebecois at BTV the other day when we returned from Ukraine and he saved $400 (CDN) on airfare to fly to LA from here rather than from Montreal! Not bad for a 90 minute drive.

Vive la difference!

Our marinas are full of Canadian's boats on lake Champlain. The buy them here and keep them here to avoid Canadian taxes. They will never enter Canada. Our ski resorts are full of French speakers. Cheaper lift tickets than Mt Tremblanc.

The better their economy is there, the better ours is here...and we don't have to pay the tax!

Build a good road to Montreal and we are all set!

Lucky we have all those wealthy Canadians coming over to spend money here in the US. I also hear many are snapping up cheap real estate in Florda. Where would we be without all those rich Canadians helping us out?

At the same time, too bad us property owners are getting sucked dry by high property taxes in Vermont and NY state on top of health care costs. It's absolutely nuts.

I'm interested in seeing where fresh water conflicts will start and end up. Canada has something like 1/3 of it in either liquid or ice states.
