Hi. I am having my oath taking ceremony this month. Thank God the long wait will soon be over. I am in San Antonio, Texas. I would like to know how long is the ceremony? Well my appointment to appear is 11:30am but the actual program is at 2:00pm; So from 2:00pm do you know how long might the program run? I have another appointment at 5:00pm that I cannot miss. Thank you.

It will depend on the jurisdiction, and the venue, and of course, how many are attending. For us, it lasted about 2 hours. They opened the doors before 9:00 am, the program started around 10:00am, and we were leaving Oakland about 12:30 pm.

Plan for a couple of hours.. You can't duck out early, because you aren't a citizen til it's over.

Did you search through the threads to see if someone else posted a San Antonio TX experience?

Also - find out who naturalized in San Antonio and see if you can send them a private message and if they reply... that might be one way to do it...

You can probably safely assume it will be done in time - but nothing is more important then this citizenship ceremony, I'm sure you could explain that if needed to someone else.

Well I go to school and I have a make up test at 5pm. For some luck means, I got this appointment for the naturalization. I do know this is important too but at the same time if I cannot take the make up test I will lose money and 3 months of my hardwork for this quarter. So im praying that I will be done for the ceremony quickly.

@v333k how do i search for other members who naturalized in San Antonio? Im a newbie sorry.

You can reschedule the naturalization ceremony if you think you might miss the test. They usually do these things once a month.

Well per your letter you know it is at Laurie Auditorium. You should be through by 4 P.M.

As you are aware traffic starts to get busy about that time on 281. The best place to park (the only place as construction has depleted the parking available next to Laurie) is across the street in the stadium parking lot. You might go there prior and check out the routing for a quick getaway after the ceremony. If to SAC no problem, if to UTSA go 281 to 1604 then west, probably better south on 281 and then west and go out 10 to UTSA.

You will get your Certificate of Naturalization (CoN) right after you took the Oath. Until you have your U.S. passport, it's the only document you have that proves that you are not an illegal alien. Lose it and you will not only pay $345, but wait 12 to 21 months for a replacement.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
