I'm the wife of an American Soldier;

I'm the hope that lives within him after storm clouded days.

The freedom from war that gives wings to his heart,

May they reach across the miles and bind our hearts together

against all that we must face in this world.

hehe, just use the multiply by 42 method. take number of people times $40 per day per person x number of days in manila (or Philippines) times the exchange rate:

or

(food money = #people x $40 x #ofdays x 42php (exchange rate)) + airport taxes + cab fares + extra spending money + hotel mini bar + other activities

Only you can decide what amount is appropriate. For me, this was a dedicated trip for one and only one purpose. To get Gretchen's visa. Not much else on the plans. Wanted to, but did not want to distract from the purpose.

Hope you have fun.

About $2000 US. Expect to pay about $100/day just for snacks and meals, getting around town, entertainment, and various expenses. Entertaining the family will take a couple benjamins each time, and you will probably have to take them all to a nice restaurant before they let their daughter wonder off without a chaperon, generally an older brother or family friend. And, of course, you will have to take the whole family on a picnic before you head back to the US.

Wow. A thousand pesos a day per person goes a long way where we come from, which is humble pie city. Jeepneys, not taxis. Make your own food - great stuff too for way less than a restaurant. Guest house, not hotel. More in Manila, but you can still do OK there if you are careful. We've snagged really nice pension houses for 450 pesos a day in our area, but we actually do have a house there. In Manila if we are going to fly out from there we overnight at a place like the green mango for $9.

In the province, ten thousand for two people in a week - geez, we can make it on that. A fat wad of 20,000 pesos for a week in Manila? No problem.

If you are doing the two-week millionaire vacation thing then there's no limit to what you can spend. But a survival budget is way less than what people here seem to be spending. I took the OP to mean more of a survival budget.

Depends on your taste. Lobster or peanut butter and jelly? Day and night. If you're going to Manila plan on what you'd spend in the US in any away from home city and add 25% to it for mistakes. This should get you by when you convert it to pesos. Best of luck!

wow..you guys must really live it up when you are there...I went for a month and I dont think I spent $2200....I even bought a sidecar while down there (WB one). anything over about 3-400 a week is way too much IMO . We did go out to eat a couple of times with the most immediate part of the family (about 10-12 people) I even paid for lechon for my birthday party there. Granted I didnt spend a lot of nights in a hotel, but on that trip we spent about a week in hotels in manila.

I do understand that everyone wants to buy things for their family...I can see where that gets expensive. I guess I will see how much we spend this next time we go down. this will be the first time we go back as a family and I am not just visiting.
