Hi everybody

I just got back to NJ from Costa Rica today, and I am still flying high !!!

Emma Rosa can pick up her visa anytime after 3:00 tomorrow, and then we have lots of other things to take care of--her daughter and child live with us in CR, so we are trying to extend our lease to help them; we have things to pack to send to the US--not a lot, but enough to make it a small burden; she has a car to sell(or give to her daughter); I brought back two HUGE suitcases full of cloths, shoes, and handbags--how many handbags does a woman need?? I couldn't begin to tell you how many are in the suitcases let alone how many she kept behind because she uses them every day !! And shoes !!! Even more !!! There were 99 pounds of stuff--mostly shoes and handbags in the two suitcases--just under the excess baggage limit !!

But it is great because we are on our way now, and while we still don't have an exact date for her move, it is probably no later than mid November. My daughter is already planning for a Mexican Thanksgiving--yes, Emma Rosa is Mexican, but has lived in CR for many years.

We'll stay in touch as we make our plans and then of course POE--I talked to the CPB officer today on my return and he said what we already knew about Newark--it is really easy, and depending on the time of day, it will be between 2 minutes and one hour for her to be processed...love the guys and gals in CPB at Newark--they have been nothing but great !!!

And in the meantime, I'll do my best to help out as much as I can here. VJ really jump started my learning curve, and while there is plenty I don't know, there is also plenty where I think I have become an expert by necessity.

Love y'áll !!!

You sound so incredibly happy even when talking about the handbags and shoes. Your joy is showing through. :)

Congratulations and Best Wishes!

Visa is in hand !! Less then ten minutes to pick it up, and they briefed her expertly about and gave her written instructions about the sealed envelope, the validity of the visa--exactly six months, gave her a sample I-751 and told her when to file it, warned her about staying outside the US too long, etc, etc...a really thorough, professional job.

Now all we have to do is clean up all the personal things in Costa Rica over the next month or two, and she will be on her way to NJ !!

Hi Dave

No--she was here with her mother when she was a teenager (LA, Washington DC, and NYC), again at a dental conference about 7 - 8 years ago (Houston), and she was here last Thanksgiving when we decided to elope rather than wait for our original wedding plans !!

Very cool!

I just can't wait to see Kinnari's reaction to the USA. She's never left India! She's prolly coming at the worst time for the mid-west as well...late Nov. early December and she hasn't been in temps less than 55°F! lol

She will freeze her butt off--just imagine if she were coming to Minneapolis in January--she'd get back on the plane and head home !!

Emma has never been here during the winter either--NJ is relatively mild compared to the midwest, but it is much colder than she has ever seen. She grew up in Mexico City where it is actually in the 30's sometimes in the winter and once in awhile a bit of snow, but it is never in the 30's during the day time. So a couple of months in the 20's will be a new experience for her.

Mexico City is at about 7500 feet elevation--compared with Denver at about 5500 feet--so temperatures are colder than you would expect at night during the winter, but it warms up quickly during the day because it is so far south--it is usually in the 70's in the afternoon after being in the 30's or low 40's at night during January/February. The mountains that surround the city reach as high as 15,000 feet and are usually snow covered--kinda weird isn't for a city so far south.
