President Obama wins the latest round in the health care legal fight.

A federal appeals court tossed out Virginia's lawsuit against the Obama health care law, ruling that the state's attorney general lacked legal standing to bring the case.

The decision essentially reversed a lower court judge's ruling that the law violates the Constitution because it forces most Americans to buy some sort of health insurance.

The appeals court did not rule on the constitutional issues involved in the challenge to the health care law.

The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, based in Richmond, is the second appeals court to rule in the administration's favor on the landmark 2009 law, though a third one has ruled against its key provision: The insurance purchase requirement known as the individual mandate.

Virginia Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli had argued that the federal law conflicted with state law, giving him standing to sue.

A three-judge appeals court panel disagreed, and sent the case back to a lower court for dismissal. The court also tossed a similar lawsuit filed by Liberty University.

Two of the judges on the Virginia panel were appointed by Obama, and the third by President Bill Clinton.

An appeals court based in Cincinnati has also upheld the health care law, while one in Atlanta struck down the individual mandate.

The issue is expected to be eventually resolved by the Supreme Court.

But it's not socialised healthcare. It wants to be, but can't escape the private insurance stranglehold on the money.

Obama had the chance to push a single-payer system in '09 and get the Democratic Congressional supermajority to back him, but he did not have a plan of his own and did not have the cojones to put something that radical, even daring, on the table. So went a lost opportunity to make a real difference. Instead, we have private health insurance companies making more money, off the back of a cancerous mess of legislation that strongarms the American electorate into paying them money ... or else.

If you live in a bush in the city park then this is excellent advice.

However, the guy at the range just had a 300k bill for a heart op and he would have lost his house and everything had he not had the insurance.

Sometimes only 2 passports can save you having to make the choice between being financially wiped out and dying in agony

I tell my wife to do 3 years in the UK and get a red passport 'just in case'. They dont follow you for tax so there is no downside

It could prevent her from ending up in the city park or the morgue with no other choice on offer

A You can't say to a woman "remarry or be a hooker but you are getting nothing from the State". Well I suppose you could - in the USA - which is still evolving from the slave owner mentality hence the lack of social safety net

B If you have a paid off house and you run a 300k medical bill, THEY WILL take that house if you have no insurance.

They will - you really do need to know that because you are in danger

C I have had a paid off house since 1986. I bought a superb house in the USA for pocket money. The rate was GBP 2.14= 1 USD I live in a mansion for the same money I could buy a rabbit hutch of a house in the UK

So I am afraid you need to get out more or do some googling and find out about this stuff coz if you get really expensive sick, and we all could, you and yours might end up in the park wondering if 'third tree from the left' is a good enough address to vote for the next pale faced fish-eyed unblinking republican who has taken everything you have

I have sold my .303 suicide rifle as I can get a quick 'off' from Washington State

However, I still think that getting patched up on the insurance and then annoying people for another 40 years is a more attractive option
