Lawyer says I caused a delay

So I wanted some opinions from people on here who know more than I do about this stuff.

I hired a lawyer to deal with the messy paperwork stuff. But I wasn't planning on sitting on my behind in the dark while he waves a magical wand.

So when the USCIS sent me the acceptance to my I-130 I immediately took it upon myself to find out if it got to the NVC. I sent an e-mail. They responded very quickly saying that yes it had arrived. SO I forwarded the e-mail to the lawyer to let him know. After all... he is SUPPOSED to know this stuff before I do right? Or he'd like to think so.

He sends me an email saying that I should not be contacting the NVC without consulting him and it's possible that I have just delayed my case.

How on earth would that be possibly? Is it possible? Or is he just angry that I did something on my own?

All I asked was if it had arrived there or not. And they told me to wait 17 more business days before I get the NVC case number.

Why would this delay a case?

On the instructions on this website it says to do exactly what I did.

Hes angry!

It doesn't delay the case by any means at all.

your lawyer is just scaring you, he is afraid if you can atttend to the process then he might be rendered useless.

That's what I thought.

I don't like the guy. He's insulting and egotistical but he's a good lawyer and he gets the job done.

If you chose to have someone handle the process for you, let them. Or, take it over and let the atty go.

One point of contact does make things simpler for all parties.

Did your email slow things down? Unlikely. Could having two spoons stirring the pot cause a slow down? It could if there is a request from an adjudicator and they have to determine who they ought to be talking with.

Thanks for the answer. The thing is I just asked one simple question. I don't plan on doing anything else. I was just excited.

But do you really think that there will be a formal request?

You can't blame me for being excited. I haven't lived with my family for four years. Some of them I haven't even seen in that time. I just really want to go home with my husband.

you ok at this point, there is nothing to worry about. There would be no delay just coz you inquired on your case but it would be adviceable to stay in sync with him and let him know what you are thinking and are going to do as he might have some plans in his head and your action might have some reaction to his plans which can create issues in future.

Thanks for taking an interest to respond.

From now on I will not be doing anything unless I talk to him first.

There is no reg in place preventing a petitioner from contacting the NVC when a g-28 is filed with the I-130 to USCIS.

AND - the front-facing, client-services geeks (also called NVC TeleOperators) are not in the loop of adjudicating, they not even see yer physical casefile.

So, IMO, the attorney is wrong.

Does he know about the online payment portal, or no?

Is he a 'postal only' kinda immigration attorney, or no ?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Gosh girl! That's a looooong time, I ve been away for 1 year and 8 months and it feels like a life time. And hell yes if I was u I'd be calling and emailing NVC,DOS ,and anybody else to get things moving along. Hubby called NVC all the time to find out what was goin on with our case. Our lawyer never called all she did was do the paper work. We took matters into our own hands. This is your life u do everything u can to be with your family. We've been calling the embassy and DOS since our journey started and they never had a problem. Just don't over do it lol

If you were trying to immigrate to the UK then it would. Girl I know applied for a spousal visa and was given specific instructions when she filed that she COULD NOT contact them to ask about the process or it would delay her case. Bizarre in my opinion. Anyway, no, no effect for the US. I personally never called NVC. I just waited.
