I would like to know if anyone has experienced trouble, or resistance from the air line agents when checking in or boarding their US bound flight using a one way ticket?

I have seen folks touch on the subject, but it is often in the other direction where they have concerns over how to cancel a segment because they found a round trip ticket to be cheaper than a one way. In my case a one way ticket is a less expensive ticket. All going well, my fiance will be using a K1 visa with a one way ticket from Continental Airlines (aka United Airlines) traveling from the Dominican Republic to New Jersey. I will be traveling with my fiance. I am concerned about the 'ninniness' of a poorly informed airline agent who is staffing their temporary check-in kiosk with 3 or 4 other Continental agents. I would like us to leave the Dominican Republic hassle free for his first flight ever, not argue with someone about the rules and purpose of a K-1 visa and barely make the plane. I've never had to give anyone a 'beat down' but that day I probably would try. :bonk: Watch him board the flight successfully and me not. lol lol lol  OK. Not funny. Sorry folks. This process will make you consider some crazy thoughts.

I welcome reponses from all folks as it may assist me and certainly help someone else, but please be accurate in your answer. Those who have entered with the CR-1 process are in a different category as your spouse enters as a legal permanent resident with no Advanced Parole/travel restrictions imposed. So let us know if you are talking K-1 or CR-1 if you can please.

I'll take a 2nd hand story if you know it to be true. A quick post to say you did a one way ticket with no problems at all will also help me out too. Please dont hesitate to reply no matter how brief. Thanks so much everyone! :D

You'll not have any problems flying on a 1 way ticket. The ticket counter personnel only care that you have a valid passport upon check in and will stamp your boarding pass "docs ok" to signify that a visa is pasted into your fiancee's passport.

BTW: are you sure Continental is the least expensive? I've flown Spirit airlines many times to see my fiancee in Costa Rica and Spirit flies to 3 or 4 destinations in the DR. I've seen flights (1 way from Santo Domingo to Ft Lauderdale from only $19)... Plus their fees to check baggage, eat, drink or sit inside of the plane. Still, sometimes their fares are much cheaper, even with all their added ####### fees.

One way ticket for me too. No problems. I don't see why they will give you a hard time. Unless you are a non-immigrant( im talking about in case you're in the embassy).

We bought one ways and had no troubles. The ONLY problem I EVER heard of regardng tickets was a VJ member that had problems with AOS because they had a ROUND-trip ticket. It took quite a bit of Senatorial involvement to get that one cleared up but they did.

Thank you for the responses everyone.

@ az110965 - to answer your question, Continental is not necessarily the least expensive. I was stating that a one way is less expensive than the round trip on Continental. I favor them as my frequent flier account is with Continental, I get 2 free checked bags, they fly non-stop to Jersey reducing likelihood of problems with clearing a POE and struggling to make a connecting flight. But thanks for the advice az110965!
